Lifelong Learning
SGR’s 10 in 10 Note – October 2, 2024
In times of change learners inherit the earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists. ― Eric Hoffer
?I’ll admit that I had never heard of renowned American thinker Eric Hoffer , but he nailed it with this quote.? It encapsulates the importance of lifelong learning in a single, simple sentence—keep learning or watch the world pass you by.?
Leaders cannot afford to become irrelevant or stuck in the past. The best way to avoid it is to be a learner or to commit to becoming one. The benefits of lifelong learning and adopting a learning mindset are numerous. It’s certainly good for career advancement, but it will also increase confidence and motivation for anyone at any point in their career. If you want to reinvigorate yourself or your team, learn something new and encourage them to do the same.
The future holds a lot of unknowns. But the more you learn and the more you challenge yourself and those around you, the more likely you’ll be willing to try new ideas and test innovative concepts. Perhaps the most important attribute of learning throughout life is that it improves adaptability, and adaptability is a necessary tool for facing the future—whatever it may bring.
