Lifelong Learning... Communication

Lifelong Learning... Communication

According to Wikipedia, "lifelong learning is the 'ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated' pursuit of knowledge for either personal or professional reasons. Therefore, it not only enhances social inclusion, active citizenship, and personal development, but also self-sustainability, as well as competitiveness and employability."

It may sound overwhelming, but I invite you to see it as overflowing :-)

Just like everyday is a new start, every morning a wide range of opportunities knocks at your door and it is up to you to choose! You may choose nothing at all, or pick one small thing to look at differently, to acknowledge without judgment, to simply contemplate it. Go within, if you are familiar with the concept from meditating, or start a conversation and simply share your thoughts, if you are more of a social bee.

At Briyah Institute we are getting together to share, and in sharing we wish to inspire you to do something for yourself today. Whether it is an insight from an article you read or a video you watch, life is this unique journey we get to pick and choose from every moment.

Just like Ryan Holiday, author of the book "The Obstacle is the Way", reminds us of what ancient Stoics like Marcus Aurelius wrote: "Our actions may be impeded, but there can be no impeding our intentions or dispositions. Because we can accommodate and adapt. The mind adapts and converts to its own purposes the obstacle to our acting. The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way."

In challenging times like the one we are all facing with the Coronavirus Pandemic, I invite you to welcome the daily practice of asking yourself "what is the learning here for me?". Whether you are occupying a leadership position already or simply practicing self-leadership, life is happening all around you and the opportunities to learn are limiteless. Watch out for the concept of communication... "the exchange of information and the expression of feeling that can result in understanding", according to Cambridge Dictionary. Isn't it a great place to start observing more attentively?

For additional inspiration on the power of communication, check the latest webinar I had the pleasure to conduct with Viviane Mansi, from Toyota, and Pedro Alves, from MasterCard, for some great insights. This is what I mean by lifelong learning... take it as you go, one day at a time, one moment of reflection at a time, one insight at a time, keep going and have fun!
