The Life of a UK Diver

The Life of a UK Diver

We’ve all seen the adverts online, in social media and the glamourised version of diving. The beautiful blue clear calm waters. No challenges, lots of marine life.

But for those of us who learn and dive in the UK, its a different story.

It can be a massive challenge, cold water, dry suits and loads of extra kit, bad visibility, weather conditions that change at the drop of a hat, wind.

So what is it that makes UK diving so special?

Well we can start with our history, we have 90 known ship wrecks around the Uk with no doubt 1000s more to be discovered. From trawlers, to world war wrecks. With such cold waters, it is hard to believe how old some of these wrecks are as they have been so fantastically preserved!

What about our marine life? Trips to Puffin Island in North Wales, Farne Islands in the North East plus other locations where you can dive with famous colonies of seals. These are popular sites to get a selfie or a video diving with a mischievous seal trying to bite your fins or steal your hood. You don’t get that in the blue tropical waters!

What none UK divers, or none divers for that matter might presume as being nothing but murky waters littered with rubbish. But what they don’t see is what the UK waters can show us.

Blue sharks, angel sharks, Bottlenose Dolphins, Basking sharks, orcas, numerous jellyfish and fish species.

With this, you will find that a diver from the UK can dive in almost any environment. We don’t get worried about a drift dive in the Maldives, or jumping off the back of a boat into the blue.

We are a whole other breed of diver! Come and jump into our world and take up a new amazing hobby this year and learn how to dive!
