Life is a State of Mind

Life is a State of Mind

Life constantly throws hurdles at us, and honestly, it’d be a bit boring if it didn’t, but there can be days where we just can’t face the music and the hurdles feel a little more like endless goal prevention barriers. It’s no fun.

But life is a state of mind.

Think about it.

Look back on the days where everyone around you was kind, holding doors for you, your coffee was just right, and your commute was perfectly timed. Then look back on the days where things got worse one thing after another; perhaps it started with a rude passer-by or a mean comment, or that your coffee order was misheard and now you’re sat with a lukewarm cup of black coffee, looking back at you with disbelief that anyone would ever order it.  Because, let’s be real, who would order that. Yikes.

Perception becomes reality.

It’s like when you’re in a bad mood, or worried about what you just sent on WhatsApp and begin arguing, because in that state of mind, the only thing that makes sense is the recipient being mad at you, so that’s how you perceive it, reading it with an angry tone inside your head. When really, things couldn’t have been better…until you started shouting at them through a variation of caps-lock and emojis…maybe send an e-card, or a Nick Cage image to lighten the mood.

Life is a state of mind, because it plays out how we see it. Each day, event, moment is just us reacting to what we’re given, but sometimes it’s a bit tricky to handle these situations when our minds aren’t 100%.

Of course, some things do happen in life where you’re more than within your right to react to negatively, these things are completely normal, but it’s maybe a good time to practice mindfulness and become aware of how we react.

Sometimes we need to grow through what we go through, learning from experiences we go through, both good and bad. And when that doesn’t help, take a day off to reset, eat some halloumi fries, and do you for a while.
