Life right now, seems like a shadow of itself. As we need to quickly adapt to our virtual worlds and get used to the “New Normal”.
As we swap screens mainly between three devices, namely TV screens, Laptops and Mobile Phones, it reminds me of the concept of the third place and that’s why I’ve mapped the three screens to that concept in the image!
The concept of the third-place stems from community building, the third place is the social surroundings separate from the two usual social environments of home ("first place") and the workplace ("second place"). Examples of third places would be environments such as churches, cafes, clubs, public libraries, bookstores or parks.
With the lock-down in place, the three screens, have become a representative for the three places. So, here’s how we are screening for attention and more:
1. Home – free time watching TV and OTT channels like Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime and others are booming.
2. Office – working and staying connected via laptops and WiFi internet connections are strained.
3. Community – Mobile phones have become extensions of the hand and social media, chat apps, video calling are all buzzing as we stay connected with friends and family.
As we zoom into these virtual screens and swap between them, let’s make sure we stay connected with loved ones around us, check in on those who stay alone and if we’re marketers – make sure we leverage the power of a seamless multi-screen experience for our consumers. Value creation and leveraging the power of digital to serve our consumers, in these times is more critical than ever.
However, let's not forget that only about 40% of the world has access to the internet – the other half – in some cases, don’t even have access to daily necessities and supplies. Let’s stay compassionate, generous and mindful of how we stay connected with those who aren’t connected.
P.S. Let’s also remember to go offline and indulge in some self-care too!
Stay safe! Stay home! #SocialDistance #MultiScreens #StayConnected #StayCompassionate #Covid19 #DigitalMarketing #Marketing #Life
