Life, Society, and Human Nature: Lessons from "Never Let Me Go"
Today, I was thinking about how fast life passes and how sometimes we waste our time following a script society wrote centuries ago. What a dark thought; maybe I'm overwhelmed by work and school, but there is some truth in that. "Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro is a hauntingly beautiful novel that got me thinking about society, ethical contradictions, acceptance, and loneliness—not acceptance in a good way, but more like giving up.
I don't know about you all, but I am a fan of dystopian novels like Fareheith 451 by Ray Bradbury, 1984 by George Orwell, and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. These classics are some of the best dystopian novels of all time and have to this day been relevant for the public, and Never Let Me Go did not fall short. This novel was published in 2005 and was influenced by contemporary debates on biotechnology and cloning, reflecting societal anxieties about scientific advancements and their ethical implications, which continue to be a more prominent topic to discuss with the evolution of technologies like AI.
First, let's talk about the Author Kazuo Ishiguro, a British author of Japanese descent renowned for his thought-provoking storytelling. Born in Nagasaki in 1954, and moved to England at age five. Ishiguro has won numerous awards, including the Nobel Prize in Literature (2017), the Booker Prize (1989), and the Whitbread Book of the Year Award (1986). He was also appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 1995 for his services to literature.
Here are the three main topics this novel explores, helping us navigate and analyze them in today's world:

1.???? Role of Society: The book underneath the sentences talks about how society can shape our destinies and how it can influence our choices. Let's think about how every technological innovation has shaped our lives, the lives of those before us and how they could affect the ones after us. This book reminds us of the ripple effect this can produce. Therefore, it is essential to stand up for what's right and be mindful of how societal pressures affect our decisions.
2.???? Small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Practice empathy in your daily life by understanding and sharing the feelings of others.
3.???? Search for Identity: The characters in the novel struggle with their sense of identity and purpose. Like us, we try to understand our journeys, who we are and what we want from life.
So, there you have it! "Never Let Me Go" is more than a dystopian novel; it profoundly reflects on society, human nature, and our search for identity.
P.S. Every once in a while, reflect on your values, passions, and goals. Engage in self-discovery and be true to yourself, even if it means going against "what is normal, what's is right."
I hope you like it. If not, either way, I would love to hear your comments!
