I am writing in the #IfIWere22 series in hopes of paying it forward. This is information I wish I had known a lot earlier in my life, as I have realized how much of an impact a few life skills have on us. Yes, even professionally. ;)
The bad news
We must deal with this skill - usually quite often. If we don't focus our attention on it and do our best to master it, it just keeps coming back until we finally do! It’s a topic you learned little about in school. So you are left to your own devices to figure it out.
The good news
We have more control over this skill than we realize. This post will get you on track to mastering it in no time!
What... No time?...
6 quotes from each section of the above article by David K. William:
#1: Words are powerful tools. What we repeatedly say and think gets etched in our minds and manifests in our actions.
#2: You want to be great at a few things, rather than mediocre at many.
#3: you need to learn to say no to so that you can focus on a handful of things that really matter
#4: Jim Ron correctly observed that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. The people we spend the most time with influence our thinking, self-esteem and decisions.
#5: If you don’t get enough rest and relaxation, you will burnout and fail.
#6: Disconnect from the internet. Unplug from all the other gadgets and step away from work for a period of time every day. Take as many walking breaks as you can. Be alone with yourself and your thoughts. Examine your own heart; explore your soul.
Health
Let's look at this life topic and how it could be impacting you.
"If you don't have your health, you don't have anything." If you are not healthy, you have limited capacity to do anything else in life. You might not be sick, but do you have the energy to even maintain your daily life? Put another way, are you reliant on food for fuel, stimulation or comfort?
I'll admit, this is a tough one for me! It is an area that I am always aware of and trying to improve by buying organic foods, avoiding HFCS and extra sugars, getting more fat instead of more fads, etc.
I was encouraged by Dr. David L. Katz's epiphany about what we already knew...
"More than 20 years ago, in 1993... we already knew how to prevent 80% of all premature deaths and the chronic diseases propagating them by modifying just three things: what we do each day with our FEET (physical activity), FORKS (dietary pattern), and FINGERS (not smoking)." - Dr. David David L. Katz
Your body tells you when it is suffering! It is well documented about the healing powers of our bodies. We could listen to our body more.
Here are some specific ideas:
- PAIN: If you are in any acute/chronic pain, I'd Google Egoscue and check out Pain Free. Sitting at a computer all day, I often get back pain. This books gets me "back" every time ;)
- ENERGY: If you are looking for more energy, try Googling "have more energy naturally". Here's one great result. I drank coffee for years, but after reading the post, Caffeine: The Silent Killer of Success, and following The Miracle Morning I was able to stop.
Conclusions
This article covered one critical area of life - HEALTH. We discussed FEET, FORKS, FINGERS, ENERGY, and PAIN.
But this article won't solve your problems. You will.
I just wanted to get you thinking about how you could start! Tell me how you have handled this area. I love to learn!
