A Life of Service, Not Abundance

The Dorey Institute is governed by a divinely inspired philosophy in which its founder, Kathysue Dorey, lives by and teaches out in her role as the?lead practitioner-researcher for The Dorey Method? Program of Integrative Study (TDM) – an integrated, trans-theoretical healing approach that specializes in restoring an individual’s well-being from years of trauma, abuses, and violence through nine in-field tested and proven methodologies anchored in positive psychology, applied creativity, agape love, leadership practices, emotional-social skills, and self-defense practices.?

Our founder also works as a self-protection advocate, creativity trainer/facilitator, mentor, coach, and subject matter expert in post-traumatic stress disorder as suffered by human trafficking survivors. Additionally, Ms. Dorey is a certified practitioner for the Emotional Quotient Inventory 2.0? and FourSight? Creative Mindset psychometric measures – both of which are used as baseline assessments in TDM. As part of her commitment to servant leadership, she holds the Executive Director position at Mercy Seed Outreach, a Christian-based NGO in Bamenda, Cameroon and financially sustains several previously trafficked women from Bamenda.?

When asked about her life today, she paused in reflection and responded:?

“I no longer live a life of abundance; rather a life of service to others, which is more in line with my identity in Christ Jesus. Before I began my studies in creativity, I was lost and in an emotional tailspin. I knew I was a good mother and a good person but lacked the ability to direct whatever good I had toward the betterment of humanity. I felt a pull toward something but didn’t know the extent of that pull until 2020 when I began my doctoral studies and finally developed The Dorey Institute in a tangible form. I have been conducting International Review Board approved research since 2012, with the most recent study completed in 2019 in partnership with Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine Quinnipiac University, in which a cohort of human-trafficked women in Bamenda, Cameroon completed TDM. At the beginning of this research, there were 11 women currently being trafficked, many of whom experienced repeat recidivism; at the study’s completion, 10 women remained and were graduated from the year-long intensive program, with all 10 leaving their trafficker.”?

Ms. Dorey has first-hand personal experience in psychological and physical-intent abuse from a 25-year previous relationship, in which she saw the effects of this abuse generationally transfer to her two daughters. She vehemently stands unwavering in providing the opportunity for others to tell their story in their own voice that often effectuates a renewed discovery process, re-creation of self-concept, intrinsic strength, and independent thought – thus providing the skills, practices, and self-reliance to live independently without the desire to fall back into their previous life. She stands as a model and example of stopping violence and its associated trauma through an affirmative, purposeful life anchored in her Christian faith.

Fueled by the authentic tenet of agape love, Ms. Dorey has a Christian worldview anchored in her emerging working theory of Creationism as a new psychological school of thought and welcomes clients who are faith-based, agnostic, and atheist.?
