Life Science companies in Arizona and Sweden just got closer

Life Sciences and Health Technology is advancing. In Phoenix, we have a raft of companies creating new tools to screen for early detection of cancer, or using Artificial Intelligence to help doctors diagnose illnesses faster and more reliable, as well as tools to easier help manage weight.

This is what attracted a small delegation from Sweden to visit Phoenix. The Swedish participants Magnus Bj?rsne, CEO AstraZeneca BioVentureHub, and Ulf Landin, Director International Relations at Business Region G?teborg, visited to make new connections and find potential BioTech companies to join the well renowned AstraZeneca BioVentureHub in M?lndal, just outside of G?teborg.

In a short time, the delegation was able to connect to several interesting companies, experience new techniques to diagnose illnesses and get introduced to the BioTech community of Phoenix and Arizona.

The BioVentureHub is a unique initiative to help emerging companies to co-work and interact with an established big player in pharmaceuticals. By having access to AstraZeneca’s equipment and experts, the smaller companies can develop their solutions faster.

It’s like AirBnB for science: When AstraZeneca does not use their equipment, or when their personnel have downtime, they can be used by the BioVenture companies.

What’s in it for AstraZeneca? They help advance the Life Science field and also maximize their resources. Their experts get to hang out with creative, and innovative founders and work on many different projects.

Magnus Bj?rsne, CEO AstraZeneca BioVentureHub said: "Sweden is an innovative country. Phoenix, with ASU, is an innovative place. There are clear synergies if we can find ways to collaborate around Life Sciences."

Ulf Landin, Director of International Relations at Business Region G?teborg: “Gothenburg region is home to many well-known Swedish companies, an innovative region heart of the Swedish business. We have a booming economy because of great collaborations between Companies, Universities and the City. We are welcoming US companies to join us.

Joacim Mattisson, President of SACC Arizona: “There are many touchpoints between Sweden and Arizona, especially in innovative fields as Life Sciences and Health Technology. As a local organization, SACC Arizona has the knowledge and connections to create efficient and successful connections for visiting delegations and companies.”

The delegation visited four cities in the US to meet with companies and introduce the AstraZeneca BioVentureHub concept to growth companies in the Life Science field.
