Life Is a Reflection of Your Thoughts

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought.?The mind is everything. What we think we become.” ~Buddha
Most of us mistakenly believe that happiness is something that is determined by fate or external circumstances out of our control.?Some believe that if you grew up in poverty, you will be unhappy and conversely, if you were born into a home lacking nothing materially, you will automatically be happy.?This way of looking at life is an illusion as neither of those suppositions are true.?
The life that each of us creates with our amazing personal mind, is a direct reflection of our thoughts at the time. We paint the canvas of our mind with many colors and hues, as a direct result of the dominant thoughts that we entertain.?
The human brain is an amazing organ that can make associations and correlations, while recognizing patterns and generating endless thoughts about these patterns. However, a truly happy life is one that is governed by our inner spirit, not dominated by a volatile parade of reactions to every random thought and feeling that arises within our mind. ?
Thoughts arise many thousands of times a day, including while we are sleeping. They develop a pattern based on recall of data in the brain from similar scenarios or triggered by smells, sights, sounds, or other stimuli that cause memory and patterns to be recalled. This pattern can then prompt future “what if” scenarios that can dominate the mind.?All of these thought patterns are automatic and unable to be controlled. However, if we do not give them attention, they can pass through the mind like a summer breeze, moving through us without creating new thoughts on that theme.?
Have you noticed a thought popping up that seemed like something you should remember; then becoming distracted by something going on, causing you to forget that thought entirely? ?
THAT is the nature of thought.?
It comes, it goes, it can be held onto to create more layers of thought on that theme, or allowed to pass relatively unnoticed. Giving attention to unhelpful, toxic, fearful, remorseful, or anxious thoughts, give them a life of their own, often in a self-sabotaging way.
Who we really are at our core essence, is not limited by our human brain.?Each of us is an important link in the magical chain of life, with a unique contribution to make. While we have a mind, we are not our mind in the same way that we have a hand, but are not our hand. The personal mind, along with the thoughts that it generates, is merely a tool to allow us to maneuver in our mortal world. Each of us has an innate ability to either accept or reject the many thousands of thoughts that come to our consciousness each day.
By focusing on our negative thoughts, we attract even more negativity. By focusing on positive or uplifting thoughts, while also observing but not giving attention to the negative ones, we can allow toxic thoughts to pass through us, without permitting them to take root. Like seeds blowing in the wind, thoughts can only blossom and grow, if they take root and are nurtured. If we allow life to blow seeds of negativity through us, without permitting them to land on fertile soil, we can cultivate the positive, nurturing thoughts, to blossom and grow into a beautiful garden.

When negative thoughts arise from a trigger during negative situations, be aware of what is happening within you and observe.?Try not to judge the negative thoughts, just observe them. Being the observer witnessing the functions of the brain and your physical reaction to them, allows those negative thoughts to pass through you.?This prevents the possibility of those thoughts and feelings taking hold of your mind, reacting negatively,?or creating new negative thoughts about them.?
At that point, your thoughts are free to formulate an appropriate plan, based on a carefully considered course of action in that moment, instead of an impulsive?and often toxic reaction. The practice of taking a momentary pause (a couple of seconds) to observe, THEN act, is the pivotal change that allows you operate from wisdom from the inside-out, without constantly reacting to circumstances surrounding you.?
Everyone faces the same challenges with thoughts. Whether you are wealthy, poor, young, old, depressed, anxious, happy, have a beautiful physical body or have physical challenges, everyone has difficulty with intrusive thoughts and our reactions to them. Mastering how you allow random repetitive thoughts to settle within your mind and take root, determines everything about the quality of life that you will have. ?
The human mind is a wonderful tool, but a horrible master.?
You are not your human mind. You are the spiritual essence that gives your mind and body, the mortal life experience that you enjoy.?
The human mind is the bus and your spiritual self is the driver of the bus.?You can turn off the automatic cruise control of the “bus” and be the driver in control of the vehicle (your incessant thoughts), any time you choose.?You are one thought away from a very different life experience.?
