Life is Neutral

You Give Most Things Their Meaning

Most things in your life are neutral until you redirect the energy and give it meaning.

When I make assumptions or judgments about experiences (or people) being positive or negative, good or bad, especially without having real facts to base that belief, I remind myself of the following parable.

The Parable of The Two Towns.

A man who was traveling came upon a farmer working the field and asked him what the people in the next village were like.

The farmer asked, "What were the people like in the last village you visited?"

The man responded, "They were kind, friendly, generous, great people."

"You'll find the people in the next village are the same", said the farmer.

Another man who was traveling to the same village came up to the same farmer somewhat later and asked him what the people in the next village were like.

Again, the farmer asked, "What were the people like in the last village you visited?"

The second man responded: "They were rude, unfriendly, dishonest people."

"You'll find the people in the next village are the same," said the farmer.

What this parable means to teach us is that it is our own attitudes, prejudices, opinions, and beliefs that often determine our view on life and others.

Your environment can help shape a better reality for yourself. Surrounding yourself with people who think bigger can open your mind to new possibilities. And make you think bigger yourself.

But simply changing your environment and what is happening around you externally will never change how you experience things if you don't give it a different meaning internally.

Start by giving the things that don't serve you a different meaning.
