LIFE Mission of Kerala Government
Think of a time when all the poor households in Kerala owns a home! Government of Kerala visualises this to happen in three years from now.
More than five lakh households in Kerala is either homeless but have land or do not have even land to build a house. The estimated cost of this task is Rs. 40000 crores. Challenges are many. Finance is the biggest challenge. Next is the time for achieving this - three years. About 1.5 to 2 lakh housing units a year!
LIFE Mission is entrusted with this task. The house less households are identified through a survey carried out in 2016. There were about 55000 incomplete houses that were started under various housing schemes earlier. They are being completed now. The five lakh households who are homeless are in addition to this.
It is no doubt a very ambitious plan. But not unattainable.
