Life in Melbourne for General Practitioners
Melbourne is a popular destination for internationally trained general practitioners - and it's easy to see why! It's one of Australia's most multicultural and cosmopolitan centres and is consistently voted as one of the world’s most liveable cities.
Melbourne city rests a few miles inland from Port Phillip Bay, with the main part of the city on the northern bank of the Yarra River. Most doctors coming to Melbourne prefer to be located in the leafier outlying and bayside suburbs with their quiet streets and proximity to excellent schools.
Getting around in Melbourne is easy thanks to an efficient public transport system that includes rail, tram and bus services. However, those choosing to live in some of the more outlying suburbs of Melbourne will find it handy to have a vehicle.
