Life Line #5: Natural Intelligence vs Artificial Intelligence
News:
- Govt. to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) for traffic management
- Tech. NGO to create an army of AI bots to plant seeds in deserted land
- AI improves the accuracy of tumor removal
It is good to see news related to AI, finally the technology is helping the human kind and mother earth.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a new buzz word, the technology is always good and looks promising for the future. However, every technology comes with a side effect. It is up to human with Natural Intelligence (NI), how far we shall adapt the technology for day to day life.
Some More News:
- AI to replace news reader in TV agency
- Smart AI technology will plan your travel for this weekend
- Your smart cart can predict and order for you
Remember the days when Escalator and Elevators were introduced, what a technology, you can climb 25 floors in less than 60 secs. It is good even today, the side effect depends on how much you want to adapt and do you still want to take the elevator to climb 1, 2 & 3 floors? You still want to ignore the message outside the elevator “Burn Calories NOT Electricity”?
AI is required for helping humans to do complex math and solving problems faster than a human mind. However, imagine you are coming back from the office and you just visited a street vendor to buy 1kg onion, 1kg potato etc.
You ask the vendor “how much?”
He says in fraction of second “Sir ji, potato is 35/kilo, onion is 16/kilo, etc. and total is 78 Rs”
You wanted to recheck the calculation, but you are shy to open Calculator on your mobile.
You hand over a 100 Rs note and he asks “Sir ji, 8 Rs change is there?”
You check your wallet and hand over 3 Rs and with innocent face you say “I have only this”
The vendor just takes the 3 Rs and handovers 25 Rs.
You just collected the change and thinking what just happened?
Again, you missed the math!
This is a very common scenario nowadays, but how has the vendor been so fast in calculating, compare to an Engineer who does more complex math in MS Excel?
Yes, our Natural Intelligence is depleted and we adapted machine intelligence.
One more try, what is 17x9? You guessed it right 163 but did you try to calculate 17x10=170-17 and noticed the answer is 153!!!!
We seldom give work to our brain, we are almost dependent on the calculator over math, mobile alarm over body alarm and a digital notepad over physical notepad.
Being human we shall respect and nurture our Natural Intelligence. We need Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our day to day life to gain more time and improve our productivity.
After earning productivity and time from use of AI, make a plan to invest an X percentage for doing Brain-Gym, try to live like the 90s.
Make sure you carry NI and pass on to your future generations. Use AI wisely
After all, we don’t want to live in an Axiom spaceship as in movie Wall-E or Do we?
