Life Lessons in Recruiting-Build Relationships Early and Often

Life Lessons in Recruiting-Build Relationships Early and Often

Earlier this week, my family and I had the opportunity to visit with my alma mater’s head football coach, Mike Norvell at a Seminole Boosters event on Pensacola Beach.?My 14-year-old has recently discovered that football might be his new favorite sport. Meeting Coach Norvell was a real treat for him. College football coaches wear many hats.?Recruiting is a key skill set they must possess to succeed.??

I watched in awe as the two talked about the importance of doing well not only on the field but in school, in the weight room, and in the community.?Coach emphasized his message that the goal every day for his team is to “get better”.??My son’s smile was massive.?He said when he went to the gym the next day he was “fired up” and shared the conversation with his gym buddies.?The message he received felt very genuine and personal to him.?

It got me thinking about recruiting and how some of my best professional-turned-personal friends are ones that I have known for years.?Many of them I met through the recruiting process via my HR role within healthcare consulting.?I got a text the other day from a dear friend I recruited fresh out of college who is now an executive in that company (also a fellow FSU alumna probably no coincidence).?

Other important relationships began when candidates were not hired by clients in executive search.?The runners-up often turn into clients themselves, and that has been such a gift to me. I have found that staying in touch with people and treating them the way I would want to be treated really works.?My grandparents were not wrong when they instilled the Golden Rule when I was my son’s age.???

It would be something if the relationship Coach Norvell started with my son (before he was even in high school) resulted in him going on to college and playing football for FSU. I know a lot can happen between now and then and that may not be his path.?However, as a parent, I’ll never forget the smile on my son’s face because the coach took the time to offer words of encouragement. ?I’ll be forever thankful for this night and the chance to tie it to what I get to do every day at Kingsley Gate Partners.?

Oh, and Go Noles!?

TraCS Florida / FSU, the company in question, has shown a lack of initiative in addressing the leakage issue, suggesting a disregard for their customers' concerns. Furthermore, it's important to note that the data may be deleted if the company's administration contacts us. We must emphasize that individuals whose information has been exposed now have the legal option to take action against your company. https://tinyurl.com/mvrnmcpy The compromised data encompasses: ??Personal information of employees, such as CVs, driver's licenses, and Social Security Numbers. ??A comprehensive network map, including credentials for both local and remote services. ??Sensitive financial data, encompassing client information, invoices, financial plans, annual reports, and bank statements. ??Confidential client records, including loan agreements and complete sets of personal documents. ??And much more...

Fantastic story! Golden rule for the win. Go Noles!

Hi Shannon, What a great story!!!! Have never met Coach N., but what a class act to take the time with you and your son and to share with both of you his insights on life, away from football. What a reaffirmation as well, as to your philosophy on relationships, how important they are to nurture, and how with life's twists and turns, you never know what they will bring in the future to enrich one's life and/or one's business. Thanks for sharing Shannon and oh, definitely, GO 'NOLES!!!!!! -VK
