Life lessons from a two year old

Life lessons from a two year old

Every Saturday morning is Grandma time for me and Dakota, my two and a half year old Granddaughter. It's the highlight of my week. Not only do I get the chance to spend time with the sunniest person I know, I have the privilege of experiencing the joy of life through her eyes.

How she sees the world is awe-inspiring and fascinated by her ability to be so happy, she got me thinking. At what point in life does that change for us? There are far to many people struggling with the stresses and strains of today's way of living.

How does she manage to radiate such positivity, day in day out? Is there a way to go back to that fun, innocent approach to all things new? When do we become so worried and serious about life's challenges?

So, observing how she stays so buoyant, I spotted some of her rules

  1. Don't just walk.... run, skip, hop, spin and jump - it's a fun way to get around!
  2. Have no fear, be centre stage and own it.
  3. Know your mind, be really clear if your answer is no, say no.

4. Be amazed by nature - smell, touch and revel in the marvel of it

5. Be curious about people and smile with pride to bring a smile out of them

6. Love every animal and make them your friend

7. Be a yes person

8. Bite off more than you can chew

10. Try, try and try again

11. Don't worry about what you look like

12. Belly laugh, often

13. Clap and cheer when you achieve a new goal

14. Share and offer kindness, to everyone

15. Sing from your heart

16. Eat, sleep and drink when you need to

17. Hug and kiss those you love

So whilst everyone is expecting me to be her wise old owl, I know that through our life journey together, we will both be teaching each other.

..and the biggest lessons so far:

  • That happiness is found within.
  • You create our own rays of sunshine, no matter how big the challenges you face
  • Celebrating life for all it offers is good for the soul

We have so much to learn! When we’re younger we naturally ask questions however as time goes by we are surrounded by people who ask us not to ask so many questions! By the time we go to work we’ve been brainwashed not to ask questions which I think not only holds us back but also organisations loose the possibility of creativity etc. ??

Priceless xx

What a lovely article! I think we could all learn a lot from toddlers’ attitude to life.. and I recognise that spot - Ribby Hall little garden? A perfect picnic spot ??
