Life Lessons from-Kaun Pravin Tambe?

I asked my wife, What are the movie options for this weekend?

She replied, There is a cricket movie on hotstar.

I said, Haven’t we watched 83?

She said, This one is about a cricketer.

I said, Have they made a movie on Virat Kohli now? Isn’t it too early? He still has to win a world cup for us.?

She replied, It is on Pravin Tambe.

I said, Kaun Pravin Tambe?

She said, Yes , that is the name of the movie. Kaun Pravin Tambe?

I was not sure whether I wanted to watch the movie. But when I started, I could not stop. It is such a well made movie, that I had tears of joy in my eyes at the end of the movie. I never thought that this movie could be so inspiring.

Six Lessons from Kaun Pradip Tambe by Harjeet Khanduja

Of course, the hero of this movie is Pravin Tambe, he is not Dhoni, he is not Kapil Dev. He is Pravin Tambe. The 41 year old bowler who was ignored by Ranji selectors year on year because of his age despite his good game. He was the one who took a hattrick in his debut match in the IPL.

I liked this movie more because it had two characters whom I know personally. One was real life Abey Kuruvilla and second was on screen coach Ashish Vidyarthi. Here are the 6 amazing lessons that I learnt from the life story of Pravin Tambe.

1. Dare to dream (#Vision)

Those who dare to dream, they only achieve it. It is absolutely necessary to have a dream in life. It does not matter how big your dream is?

Pravin had a dream from his childhood that he wanted to play in Ranji. He wanted his parents to sit in the front row and watch him play. This dream defined his life.

2. We only stand in front of our own talent (#Feedback)

It is important to have a coach in life. More important is to trust the coach and listen to the coach. When we do not listen, we stand in front of our own talent.

Pravin was a successful medium pacer. His coach told him that he has a talent for spin. Pravin did not listen to the coach because his medium pace was working for him. He did not take his talent to the next level and paid a price for it.

3. You just need one good over (#Patience)

Whether it is cricket or life, you only need one good over. This dialogue of Ashish Vidyarthi is in itself a life lesson. When Pravin Tambe realised that he had a natural talent for spin, he was 34. He approached his coach and requested to train him on spin. He kept training and patiently waited for that one good over.

4. Passion and Persistence (#Persistence)

You are the only one, who has to believe in yourself. If you believe in yourself and your dreams. Then the rest of the world will conspire to make your dream come true.

The story of Pravin is the story of persistence. Despite all the odds he was passionate about his dream of playing Ranji. He kept playing. He refused to give up.?

5. Age is just the number (#Discrimination)

Thumb rules are the starting point of discrimination. Instead of assessing people on the competencies required for the job, filtering is done based on thumb rules. This needs to change. IPL brought that change.

Pravin focused on his fitness and game. His competencies and his performance proved to everyone that age is just a number.

6. There will be friends, there will be foes (#Relationships)

Life is not fair. There are people who come in your way for no reason and dissuade you. Then there are people who are your well wishers and go out of the way to help you. You can not control foes, but you can always try to make more friends.

Pravin had few people who made sure that he did not get a place in Ranji. At the same time, he had a friend like Abey Kuruvilla and a well wisher like Rahul Dravid who got him a slot in the IPL for that one good over.?

Summary

I wish, I will meet Pravin some day and tell him that I am Harjeet Khanduja who got inspired by your life and wrote an article on it and he will ask, Kaun Harjeet Khanduja?

Thank you so much for sharing Harjeet Sir, Beautiful lessons shared. I too when I watched it could relate to it that its very important to have a Goal in life and let not the fear of low income, how will one support the family come in between your goal. He had that focus on his goal and kept the rest factors around it. Truly inspirational.
