Life at Lendi: Rebecca takes us through a day in the life of an IT Operations Coordinator

The Fintech industry can often seem like a guarded space, impossible to see inside of and having limited access for those of us looking to learn about the ins, outs and skills it involves. Until now.?

We caught up with IT Coordinator Rebecca Drummond to give us through the keyhole access, shining a light onto a typical day in the life of a Lendi Group techie, see for yourselves!?

A typical workday:

Lendi Group follows a Flex First philosophy and I generally choose to base myself from my home office meaning that my work day begins at 9am. Having this flexibility is one of the many reasons I joined Lendi Group because it allows me to define my own ways of working and have a greater work/life balance - such as less time commuting and more time to grab a cup of tea!?

So, 9am marks the regular operations meeting with the wider team. The Technology Operations or TechOps team are a bunch of hard working, supportive and dedicated people. I’m very fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful team. I love the team I work with and this meeting allows us all to collaborate and move items forward.

In my role, organisational and planning skills are essential and after the meeting I often? check my emails right away so that I can be across everything. These emails could be anything from IT peripheral requests to updates on system access.?

Once my urgent emails are dealt with I then get started on requirements for our newest team members who will soon be joining us. This includes anything from confirming system access requirements, sending laptops out to new team members and purchasing additional equipment for them to set up their home office. In true Flex First style, it is imperative that myself and my team can ensure all new team members will be set up comfortably to work from home from day one! This includes having all equipment and access.

My tips for new team members are not to stress on your first week on the job. Introduce yourself, ask questions (no question is too small) and focus on learning the ins and outs of your team, their roles and how you can help them.??

I work closely with several other teams across the business and depending on the day this could be People Operations, Distribution or Leadership and many more which tends to be simultaneous for us to create a smooth onboarding process for our new team members. Also, just as importantly I work across teams to help create a great offboarding experience which is equally valuable to our team members.

I have also recently begun attending our ITIL incident meetings in order to grow and develop professionally in the IT Service Management space which I am particularly passionate about learning and find I can never sit still!?

I am a big advocate for Women in Tech and Leadership and aspire to be a Leader in the next couple of years. I want to inspire people from all walks of life to join the Tech space and strive to create a more diverse team.?

Thanks for providing us with some insight into a ‘day in the life’ of a Lendi Group IT Coordinator.?

We would love to hear your thoughts on the Lendi Group brand as well as hear any tips or guiding thoughts you may have for us on a career in tech and being in a minority in a male dominated sector?!

What always strikes me is how progressive Lendi Group is as a brand; we strive to create and define new processes every day and it’s exciting to be a part of this evolution. I can’t wait to see what Lendi Group is like one year from now and it is exciting to be a part of that!?

I feel proud to work for a company that cares deeply about their customers. I think Lendi Group epitomises our value “Keep home loans Human”, not only as a team member, but also as a customer. I wouldn’t dream of finding a Mortgage Broker elsewhere as I have only had good experiences.?

As for tips, the sky is the limit when it comes to a career in Tech. Find a mentor in the industry to guide you and don’t be scared to reach out to the people around you for advice, to ask questions (no matter how small) and to lean on for support when you need it.?

Although being a woman in a male-dominated industry has many challenges. A quote from Gloria Stein strongly resonates with me when I consider what it means to be a woman working in this industry. I can say that I'm proud to be a woman working in Tech!?
