Life and Lemons

We have all probably heard the phrase ‘when life hands you lemons’ but what does it really mean to you? Life is always going to have lemons come in from time to time but what we ‘chose’ to do with them, will result in us either creating lemon juice (victor) for ourselves or squirting the lemons in our eyes (victim).

A situation that is testing you beyond your scope of patience is going to produce out of you what is already going on inside. If you squeeze a lemon, you get lemon juice because that is what is inside. It is the same when you squeeze another human being, what comes out of them is what is inside.

When lemons land on our doorstep, the normal thing for most people to do is to look around them and blame everyone and everything before looking at themselves. It is one of the ways we have been conditioned by our society. We would have observed our parents, family, and friends blame external circumstances for their unhappiness. ‘If he/she didn’t do that then I wouldn’t be like this’.

When we say those words, we are really saying ‘I need everyone in my life to behave in alignment to my wants and needs and if they don’t, I suffer’ (lemon juice in the eyes).

So, how do we make lemon juice out of life’s lemons? How do we change our mentality from victim to victor? We first have to ask ourselves real questions such as ‘what is this situation telling me about myself‘.

As I already stated, when people or situations test us, what comes out is what is inside. After asking yourself this question, if you feel you have a lot of anger, resentment, self-judgment, and denial, that is what is inside and it hasn’t just arrived.

In every lesson, there is a blessing. We live in a universe of polarities. For every negative, there is a positive and vice-versa. What trips us up is we only focus on ‘why me’ (victim). If not you, who else would you prefer :D?

Adopt the mentality of curiosity. If you feel yourself becoming wound up, stop – breathe – sigh – ask the question. The answer may not come right away and can come at a later date BUT, it will set you free from feeling like a victim because you have a higher awareness that there is a blessing in this lesson.

Have a great day,

James.
