WHAT TO LOOK FOR... TAKE NOTICE!
In regard to Life Insurance, pay attention to what is being offered to you if any Sales Rep or Agent approaches or calls you about life insurance to CANCEL, REPLACE, CASH-IN or DISCONTINUE your Life, Mortgage Protection, or Final Expense insurance policy! Please be careful of any future REPLACEMENT attempt, if it's not in the best interest of you!
- Do not give your personal information to anyone not willing to provide you their credentials to sell insurance in the state where you reside. An agent should ALWAYS provide their National Producer Number, a photo ID badge, and you should confirm their license with the department of insurance in your state first. Same with you, if you never met the agent, they should require your driver's license to verify you as well. Let's show that we are who we say we are.
- Do not share your info with this individual telling you they are from your "lender of bank" and can offer you a better deal. Insurance agents do not sell for Mortgage companies when offering Mortgage Protection Insurance for example. It's not the same! If you pass away, the mortgage companies do not help you save your most valuable asset. Putting life insurance in place can be used to help your loved ones partially or fully pay off your mortgage payments or final expense cost. There are many options available such as Whole life or Term products. Some even have 100% cash back. All depends on what you qualify for.
- If an agent tells you that you should cancel your current policy and go with their company for a lower premium or that it's better coverage. Your current agent should keep in touch and review your life insurance program every few years with you to keep up with changes in your income and your needs. Should you decide to seek a new agent, fully discuss these details with the agent while reviewing your current policy because it may be costly to replace that policy, plus you may have valuable rights and benefits in your policy you have now that may not be included in your new one. Much of what you paid in the early years of the policy you have now, paid for the company's cost of selling and issuing the policy. You may have this cost again if you buy a new policy. If you are older or your health has changed, premiums for your new policy will often be higher. You will not be able to buy a new policy if you are not insurable. However, there are many reasons to look at new options as well. Your current coverage in place may no longer meet the needs of your family as our life and finances change or the term is ending soon. That is a different scenario as insurance is not a "one size fits all" and life changes our circumstance. Also, you can have multiple polices in place as your need changes as well. NOTE! Just because an agent tells you they can beat your current premium, don't drop one policy and buy another without a thorough study, REVIEW & COMPARE!
- If you decide to replace your policy, don't cancel your old policy until you have received the new one. You will have a review period to make sure it's what you wanted but remember, once you cancel your current policy, you will no longer have it in place and will not be able to get it back at the rate or insurability you had when you first put it in place.
SOONER THAN LATER IS BEST as rates are lower in your younger years, insurability is greater as none of us know what our future holds as your health could change. Underwriting looks at many variables, so every policy is unique...like you.
- FIND A POLICY THAT MEETS YOUR NEEDS AND FITS YOUR BUDGET (makes no sense to cancel later and not be covered if it's not affordable & comfortable!)
- DECIDE HOW MUCH INSURANCE YOU NEED - some insurance is always better than none.
- MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS WHEN YOU BUY A POLICY
