Life is incredible! Be adventurous and never give up . . .

My Algordanza Story . . .

On the 25th of April I get to travel to Switzerland - the 3rd time to Europe and 2nd time to Switzerland during the past 7 months. This time I will have the pleasure to travel with my youngest son, Jordan aged 7 years and after Switzerland, we are off to Euro-Disney and Paris.

It all started with my mother's passing 2yrs ago, on the 5th of March 2015.

Shortly after my mom's death - I read an article on social media about a Swiss company making Diamonds from cremation ashes. The idea of a Memorial Diamond fascinated me and I wished I could do this for my mother. Unfortunately life happens, we get busy, I lost the information – but it remained at the back of my mind.

Being a commercial photographer, I was doing a shoot a year later, on Saturday 19th of March 2016, for one of my clients, who owns a funeral parlour. It was Easter weekend and they were hosting a charity promotion in the town's square, handing out Easter eggs and soft serve ice-creams to disadvantaged children. At the event, we started talking about his business and I asked him if he had heard about diamonds being made from cremation ashes. From his response, I assumed that he was not that interested.

Three months later, in June 2016, he contacted me enquiring about the discussion we had and whether I knew who the manufacturers of the memorial diamonds were. He asked me to investigate it further on his behalf, as he was interested to setup such a plant in South Africa. I did my research, gathered all the info we needed and reported back to him. By now he was very keen to look at the possible business opportunity and requested that I make contact with the company and proceed with arrangements to visit them in Switzerland in September 2016.

I could not believe my luck! Here I was In Switzerland, meeting the inventor and founder of Algordanza and witnessing first hand, the production facility - where they extract carbon from the cremation ashes of deceased loved-ones and manufacture diamonds from it.

My mind was blown away with excitement.

Unfortunately, my client could not get a license to setup a manufacturing plant in SA - as Algordanza prides themselves as being "Swiss Made", ISO certified and the leaders in their field. On my return to South Africa, with my client's blessing - I proceeded with negotiations to set myself up as a local partner in Johannesburg for Algordanza. We reached an agreement and now I'm an official Algordanza SA partner.

Not only is my dream to make a Memorial Diamond for my mother coming true - I am also taking her youngest grandson, Jordan, with me to Switzerland, to personally deliver her ashes and show Jordan where his Granny is going to become a diamond.

In addition, I will be visiting our sister company in the same group, Augenstern Diamonds, who manufacture diamonds from human hair.  I am taking hair clippings from each one of our three sons, to make a Celebration Diamond for my wife, Natasja (my best friend of 33yrs and 29yrs of marriage). The diamond will be set in a ring to replace her engagement ring (lost some time ago) - to celebrate our love, our marriage, and our special bond with our three amazing children.

Life cannot get better and dreams do come true! Sometimes we read crazy things and just do nothing about it. Opportunity always lies lurking - be adventurous, you never know where it may lead . . . !
