*unpause*
So hey... been a while since I've done a blog but I have been on pause for about a year at this point. So what happened? I moved on from MAG-O due to the role not really being what I was after despite the company and people being great. I then joined a company called iVendi which didn't go to plan due to a lack of communication which caused me to have nothing to do for 5 months. I founded myself a company called 8 Over 2 ltd to do contracting work and did a short 5 week jaunt to get a chunk of work done with very little documentation/path/plan/handover too work from which was fun. The bulk of the required work here was done over a period of a week of manic work between myself and two other colleagues and it was an interesting fufilling insight into how contracting actually works.
That leads me to present day, finding myself in a post where I can get properly back on track from the derailment that was the last year and doing the things I wanted to be cracking into in the first place. I started with IBM in their Client Innovation Centre on the 10th June and had a pretty solid induction for a change (thanks to the super helpful Kirsty Fletcher) which gave me a nice overview of the business, practices, the team and the work I'd be doing. I got set up with a nice modern Macbook Pro (first time I've had a touch bar which is neat) and got to work setting up my logins and apps that I'd need. After a few hours I was able to head back home and look into the ton of material that I have access to such as an extensive training package and the wealth of policies to pour over as well as getting things like my corporate card and phone ordered through the relevant portals which was smooth and painless.
I spent the next few days combing through the material and making sure I had everything I needed to get started and by the sounds of things I've already been sequestered to a client site (pending SC) which is nice. I also have a neat quarterly meetup to attend tomorrow where I get to meet some more of the leadership at the CIC which is nice. All in all I am excited to get started again. Got some exciting things on the horizon such as the Open Source and Automotive Linux Summit over in Tokyo Japan next month and potential trips to Florida and Seattle on the cards as well if everything goes to plan. More to come over the next weeks and months.
Oh! I'm also doing a fundraising ride in October for the British Heart Foundation, which you can find more details on here: https://bit.ly/2WnRL27
Please give if you can as it's a great cause that is very close to me.
These are indeed exciting times. Until next time, thanks for reading!
