Life Hack: Living Your Passion For Dummies
Ah, living your passion. It sounds like something out of dream--one filled with cupcakes and sunshine and butterflies and rainbows. It's something we ALL want, but with such a lofty question, it's hard to know exactly where to start.
So, I suppose we should start with the first step--as most things normally do (even though most of you know, I'm far from normal).
- Define your passion.
Now, you might want to just throw me some Haterade and a dirty look for that low-blow, *duh you stupid bish*, obvious step, but although obvious, defining the ONE thing you love more than anything else ain’t all peaches and cream, buttercup. It’s no easy feat. It takes time to think about; to reflect. To relax your mind, your body, and your soul long enough to wander off and get lost in your thoughts to organically bring what you love to the surface.
What do you think about when you’re in the shower? At the gym? On a quiet walk through the neighborhood, or when you wake enough early enough in the morning to see the sunrise? What do you think about when your mind finally has a moment without all of the buzzing of work phones, and Instagram, and your Netflix series, and the music blaring over the speakers at a bar? What do you think about…?
What did you think about as a kid, when none of that noise existed? At the core of everything, what did you love? Was it art? Was it building castles out of Legos? Was it sharing stories, or making people laugh? What did you say you wanted to be when you grew up..?
Regardless of what it was that brought you such joy, or what dream career you had planned out from the age of five, I can promise you the act itself was extremely irrelevant... it is the feeling the act brought you, or the feeling you thought being a rockstar or astronaut would bring you, that made it so addicting-- so memorable, so special.
We all live for that feeling. So, what brought that to you before...? What brings that to you now...?
That feeling is the career you should be chasing. That feeling is where your dream career is waiting for you to acknowledge it, to accept it. When we spend 85.679% of our day (yes, that’s an extremely accurate percentage in case you’re wondering…) at ‘work’, we HAVE to be spending that time at our 'PURPOSE'. At what we LOVE. Because tomorrow is going to come regardless--the same sun will rise, the same sun will fall. But unless you are doing something different, you will never be able to FEEL that something different that your inner-five-year-old-you couldn't deny; couldn't shake it if you tried.
So do yourself a favor and make a move towards that FEELING. I promise you, you--and your dream career that is one day closer tomorrow if you make a move today-- will never regret it.
