The life of the GetJet Airlines Captain

Mohamed Mansur (Alzwai) has been with GetJet Airlines for more than four years. His work took him around the world, but there are still places he’d like to see. As he tells his story, it is clear that aviation is his biggest passion.

What made you decide to become a pilot?

I’ve dreamed about it since I was a child. In primary school, I went on a tour of the local airport, where I learned that my neighbour was also a pilot. This tour sparked my interest in aviation, and it never faded.

When did you become a pilot for GetJet Airlines?

I came to Lithuania in 2015 to work as a pilot. After a few years, my company made changes in staffing, but I stayed to finish my master’s degree and work as an instructor. I joined GetJet Airlines in 2019 and I really like it here – I have made good friends; the people are very friendly. Also, I can now call Lithuania my home.

What are your favourite destinations?

I prefer the smaller, more unusual airports. I can point out Cyprus, Crete and one airport in Scandinavia that feels just like a fairy tale when you’re landing.

At the beginning of my career as the First Officer, I was fascinated by large airports – London, Paris – but they’re more difficult to land at. Every single airport has its nuances and I still get excited when visiting new ones.

You’re a pilot and an instructor. Do you have time for hobbies outside of work?

During the summer I enjoy roller skating and, since I’ve moved to Lithuania, took up wakeboarding. I’m yet to find an activity for the winter, but hopefully that changes soon.?

What about the work and personal life balance?

I think it all depends on your ability to plan your time. I don’t have many responsibilities, so I’m fine, but it is all manageable – you just must decide which things need your immediate attention and which ones can wait.

This job is hard and has it nuances – there are days when you’re off and there are days when you can barely manage to keep up, but I think it’s the same for everyone. In the end, if you cannot plan your time, you should stay at home.
