Life of a Fresh Graduate in Professional Career Field
Hello everyone.! I am Zay Yar, a fresh graduate from University of Information Technology, specialized in Business Information Systems Major. I am currently working as a Business Development Executive in 2C2P which is a global fin-tech company.
One good thing is our University is connecting with many local/global companies in the internship period which all of the final year (Fifth Year) students have to join in order to accomplish their last semester of studies. Internship period is around 3/4 months. So, thanks to our rector, there is a very high chance of getting a job as soon as we graduated.
University of Information Technology was mainly connecting with Japanese companies for more foreign chances and now is connecting with companies from Southeast Asia Companies. There are so much differences including administration, working style, languages, organization structures, between local and global companies. Strength and weakness are diverse in choosing local and global companies. I will mention details of strength and weakness in next paragraph with honest details.
For global companies,
I do not have experience in working Japanese companies but I do have experience in communicating and collaborating with Japanese people, programs and camps. So, I do know their working nature and in February, I have a camp to join in Kyoto.
I am writing this based on the answers of my friends and seniors currently working in related companies.
Since our university is currently connecting with Southeast Asia countries, I will mention how it is like to work in Japanese companies first. Japan is a technology advanced country and their culture is very cute which is one of a must country to visit. In order to work in Japanese companies, Japanese language is a must thing first. So, in internship period, all you need to do is learning language. There is some work related process based on companies. But here is a good thing, you have a very high chance to visit Japan because you currently are a student and student visa is the easiest way to gain. If you want to visit Japan during internship period, this is a very good chance for you.
Choosing internship company is not a life turning point, you are still 20 at that time and there are still many chances in your life ahead to go abroad. But between the period of choosing which company you are going to work as a permanent employee is a life turning point.
There is no grantee that even if you are working in a global company, you may have chance to go abroad and work things that you love. There are still people who have to learn a language for so long meanwhile others are gaining experience in their work related field and stepping into professional career life. Here is your decision to choose.
- Do you want to work at foreign for which reasons? Is it for salary, life-changing experience, or just for work-at-foreign norm?
- Are you ready to take a language lesson for over one year while others are actually working and gaining experience?
- Are you sure that foreign company can offer you good choices? Is that company small or big? Do you know exactly the nature of that company?
The size of a company do speak out loud and it can effect your
As for me,
I am working at a global 2C2P Company (Myanmar) and headquarters are in Singapore & Thailand. I worked as an Operation Coordinator (Operation Team) in internship period which I could learn about all 2C2P products in my internship period. Knowing all the products details is a must very first thing to start working in a company.
Here is my turning point, I had to choose where to work after my internship period. It was a very hard choice. But I got a chance to work as a Business Development Executive in 2C2P Business Development Team which is super cool for me. Since I am more prefer to become a coordinator between tech and business rather than a tech guy.
Working as a Business Development Executive in a Fin Tech Company is a challenge for me since there are tons of work loads and responsibilities since from the start. I have to catch up every process, and tech term which is easy for me since I have graduated from IT university. Let me explain the role about BD Executive a little bit.
Business Development Executive,
The main task of a BD Executive is that you initiate business process of a company and coordinate between people/organizations who want to use your business and your internal team. Depend on the company you are working, the tasks may a little be different.
- At First, You have to know what is the scope of the company you want to work in. Is that a B to B business or B to C business? If it is a B to B business, you have to deal with merchants only, which is good and you can learn about others' business process. If it is B to C business, you have to deal with consumers which is mostly similar with end-to-end sale.
- Tasks of Business Development Executive is different in the career fields you have been working in. I chose to become a BD Executive in Fin Tech Company since it is related with IT related fields and can use my specialized major.
- Business Development Executive has to handle one product account of a company. So, you can be also known as a " Product Owner ". So, you have to realize that is your chosen company famous? Is the products of your chosen company well-known? Is the products unique? If these questions do not matter for you, please kindly note that "Are you willing to give out your heart to deal with people who want to use your company products which are super common and normal in local market."
- Since you are a coordinator and initiator a company, you have to have a good relationship with every other team in your company. You also need to know some process flows of these teams.
- You have to know every trend of local/international business market. So, you can have an instant solution for you merchants. Every merchant has different business models and you will deal with new market and business models everyday.
- You have to maintain good relationship with your remaining and potential merchants and follow up your merchant account weekly/ monthly based on the analyzed report from Business Analysts.
These are the summarize tasks of being a Business Development Executive.
You also need to improve your personal and professional development. You should have other interests too.
In other hand, I am participating in programs and camps which I am interested in. I have been learning about "Social Enterprise" in 2019 and I am dedicated to Social Improvement related work lately.
I am participating in International Development Field Camp- Myanmar & Japan 2020, specialized in Social Entrepreneurship sub-theme. I am also a participant of Youth Leadership Forum 2019 and currently doing a three-month follow-up project for this program.
These extracurricular activities can probably improve your personal development as well as can be a part in developing your professional career life.
Do not only focus in one thing (studies or works) because it can consume your life-time in boring and not-cool way. So, heads up and try to live in the way of carefree and the happiest way.
Your life is your choice.
