Life Design Patterns

People who are from a programming background can understand? the terms of design patterns easily but understanding of life design patterns is really not easy for everyone.

Broadly, there are three types of design patterns in programming as

  1. Creational
  2. Structural
  3. Behavioral

All the design patterns of programming are included broadly in these three categories. You can write code without design patterns and run a product too but that would not be repeatable, not tested, not proven development or not in a systematic manner. In a very simple way, the design pattern provides a standard terminology or a pattern to implement rather than building from scratch. Let me explain it this way

Suppose you are a builder and want to build 500 residential flats. What you will do first. You will hire an architect to design or architect the layout plan only for a single unit, right? OR you will ask him to design 500 layouts for every flat. Absolutely not. The architect will design a single layout plan, you will review it, approve it then that would be replicated for all 500 units. This simple analogy works in programming and life as well.

But what about the design patterns of our life? Have you ever thought about it?

Yes, I got a chance to think about it. The similar concept also applies in our life as well. Without a proper design pattern you can run your life but you can not enjoy it. To enjoy a life we all need a systematic, tested, proven and repeatable approach.

I think these are design patterns for our life?

  1. Vision - A border picture of what you want to achieve in your life.
  2. Mission - A specific number what you want to achieve which is associated to your vision?
  3. Goals - Daily, monthly, yearly achievable which should align with your mission and vision.

To enjoy life there should be a clear vision, mission and goals. Many of us think that only companies have their vision, mission and goals. No no really not. Earlier even me too. But it's wrong. Every person should have their own vision, mission and goals. These are actual design patterns of our life. Do daily stand up with yourself to achieve your daily, monthly, yearly and lifetime goals.

Steps: How to Start ?

  1. Think about what you want to achieve in your life. That should be your single milestone. That is your vision.
  2. Break down the requirements into small small stories in an agile form. It means finding multiple ways to achieve your vision with a specific number. This is called your mission.
  3. How you can finish your stories or tasks in a week, month or in a year, the targets which are called your goals.
  4. Practice a daily stand up with yourself by writing daily goals or tasks or stories by visualizing how I can achieve that.
  5. Repeat the same until you achieve your goals, your mission and your vision of life.

By the way, it's very easy to follow. Repeat the same things you do on a daily basis in your office. The only difference is, in the office you are working on the company's goals, mission and vision. But here at home you have to work only for yourself. Start working for yourself without wasting your time. There is so much uncertainty in life you can't imagine. I can feel it. If I can feel it then why not you? You don't have too much time so focus on yourself and Identify your vision, mission and goals. Once you start working for yourself then you can do far better for your company as well.

I have started working. What are you waiting for??
