Life is a continuous journey of discovering our values

Throughout our lives, we encounter various experiences, including challenges, failures, successes, pains, joys, choices, conflicts, confusions, and satisfactions. These experiences serve to enhance our self-awareness, clarify our values, and identify what is most important to us.
By identifying our values and understanding our personal characteristics, as well as establishing the hierarchy of these values early on, not only we can mitigate pain and confusion, but also enables us to achieve our goals and aspirations more efficiently.
In 1973, renowned social psychologist Milton Rokeach categorized values into two groups: "behavior modes" and "ultimate states," identifying 18 terminal values and 18 instrumental values.
I've outlined 22 core life values that define our life purpose. Reflect daily on how each experience aligns with these values to gain deeper self-understanding. Summarize and reflect on which values were being used, whether they have been fulfilled, and the order of these values to gain clearer insight about yourself.
Similarly, what are our purposes of working? Identify the values behind your professional goals. These values can help answer many career questions. E.g. whether to remain in your current role or seek a new opportunity? Why you feel frustrations in your work? What are you enjoying of your work? ....
Consider an example from coaching cases: within the current company, an employee experiences psychological abuse by their boss, feels undervalued, disrespected, and is forced to perform tasks they do not wish to undertake. This situation raises the question of what is more important: maintaining a stable job and income or preserving one's self-worth and respect. If one chooses to leave the job, they face potential income insecurity; conversely, opting to stay requires coping with unmet personal values and dissatisfaction.
Ultimately, whichever decision you make reflects your own values, and you must accept the consequences of that choice. Constantly complaining and adopting a victim mentality will not lead to a resolution, as only you can take steps to change your situation.
