Life at Capio: George Dee Shapland
Capio Recruitment
We match innovative businesses with skilled people across three core sectors: Insurance, Legal, and Wealth Management
What do you specialise in and how long have you been at Capio?
I’m a Principal Legal Recruitment Consultant and I’m just coming up to my 2nd anniversary!?
Can you share details about your core experiences and milestones so far in your role?
My promotions have been consistent in the time scale I’ve been at Capio, which I’ve been so pleased with! I was a recruitment consultant for 8/9 months and then ever since, I’ve had a promotion every 6 months.
Milestones for me were reaching £250,000 billed in my second year of recruitment! I’ve placed 10 candidates (so far!) with one client this year and working with them exclusively, as well as working with a group of friends who referred each other and placing them all!
?
What advice would you give to someone who is just starting in recruitment?
Listen learn and utilise the people around you. You’ll learn far more from those around you than you realise!
Also, be prepared to be in it for the long haul. Recruitment isn’t for those who want a quick win, but if you prepare yourself for this hard truth, in the long run, you’ll reap the rewards…and thank the past you.
?
With Capio being your first recruiting gig, how have they helped you achieve your career goals?
They gave me my first shot in recruitment and trusted me with the skills I took from a previous career in tech sales, to be able to mould them around a recruitment role.
They were patient, supportive, and gunning for me to succeed. I owe them for the chance they gave me, and the trust they continue to put in me!

What’s been the key ingredient for you for a successful career in recruitment?
Building meaningful relationships with clients and candidates, and never putting on a fake version of myself! If I can’t be successful being me then I wouldn’t want to succeed.
How did you successfully build up your network?
I found a common goal with a client, who matched how I wanted to work and a positive and successful way of working. I then took that to market and tried to find candidates who matched the same criteria. I tried to connect with as many legal professionals as possible, make friends, and gain valuable knowledge.
After a while, this network would turn into active candidates/providing referrals or generally just helping me learn and broaden my legal horizon.
What do you see yourself achieving in 2025 at Capio?
?I’d like to be running a team in my region, consisting of delivery consultants, and account leaders. I want this team to operate under multiple exclusive and recurring accounts. I would like this team to achieve £500,000 in billings.
