Question?
I am 16. I want to start a business that will make a lot of profit. How can I start? I love writing. I haven't started writing books yet, but I hope to start soon. What platforms can I use to publish my write-ups?
Answer
At 16, you're already thinking about starting a business with your writing skills. That's impressive! Your love for writing is a fantastic foundation. To begin, you can explore the types of writing that truly ignite your passion—creative fiction, informative articles, or something entirely unique. Your enthusiasm will be your guiding light.
Next, consider conducting some market research. Take a closer look at the writing landscape to identify trends and niches that might be in high demand, especially in the country you’re resident in if it’s not Nigeria. This insight can help you choose a specific focus for your writing business.
Creating a solid business plan is crucial. This plan should outline your short-term and long-term goals, target audience, and the strategies you'll employ to reach them. It's like your roadmap for success in the world of writing.
Now, let's talk about platforms. There are numerous ways to share your writing with the world:
1. Blogging: Platforms like WordPress and Selar are user-friendly options to start your blog. Regularly sharing your thoughts, stories, or expertise will help you build an audience over time.
2. Medium: If you're looking for a platform with a built-in audience and potential earnings, Medium is a great choice. Their Partner Program allows you to make money from your articles.
3. Wattpad: If your passion leans towards fiction or storytelling, Wattpad offers a vast readership for your stories.
4. LinkedIn: If your writing has a professional or business angle to it, consider publishing articles on LinkedIn. It's an excellent way to connect with a business-oriented audience.
5. Self-publishing: When you're ready to dive into book writing, platforms like Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) or Okadabooks (a Nigerian platform) can help you self-publish your work.
In your writing journey, understand that building a successful business or writing career takes dedication and perseverance. Keep refining your skills, stay consistent with your content, and be open to feedback. With your passion and commitment, you're on the right path to turning your love for writing into a profitable venture.

Answer
It's not uncommon to face challenges after completing NYSC in Nigeria. Job hunting and starting a business can be quite daunting, especially without substantial savings.?
Start by revising and tailoring your CV to match the job opportunities you’re interested in. Emphasise your skills, experiences, and achievements during NYSC. Don’t limit your job search to just one field; explore various industries and be open to entry-level positions.
In Nigeria, personal connections and networking can play a crucial role in job hunting. Reach out to your contacts, friends, and alumni networks. Attend industry events or virtual meetups to expand your professional network. Sometimes, job opportunities can arise through word of mouth.
Additionally, reaching out to your network of friends and family can be a valuable resource. You never know who might have connections or advice that could help you in your job search or entrepreneurial journey. Networking can often open doors you might not have considered.
Explore opportunities for freelance work or part-time jobs that align with your skills. Many online platforms offer freelance gigs that can provide a source of income while you search for a more permanent position.
And while you work toward your goals, it's crucial to manage your finances wisely. Creating a budget and being mindful of your spending can help you make the most of what you have.
Lastly, don't be too hard on yourself. These are challenging times, and it's okay to ask for help or seek guidance from mentors or career advisors. Sometimes, a fresh perspective can make a world of difference. Just know that you're not alone in facing these challenges, and with determination and patience, you can find your way to stability and success.
