Life After Cancellation

Some of last year's guests made the conference feel like cancel culture to my face. No further comment because only the gracious, loving people met through No Longer Virtual read my articles.

No one who didn't like me nor put on airs because they were in a Solopreneur Bubble reads nor cares about my work. Forget them. So many of the regulars weren't there that I told Sarah "We are the A List".

Who made it to No Longer Virtual? Mike Johnson. Not the uptight Speaker of the House who is so afraid of pornography that he makes his son monitor his accounts.

Maybe that Mike Johnson needs to worry more about balancing the budget and doing something, anything in his tenure as Speaker of the House. I don't know him nor want to cross paths with someone so afraid of same sex relationships he will probably be caught in a bathroom with- never mind.

https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/requiem-mike-j-thomas-jackson/ was my tribute the first time Mike Johnson left LinkedIn. He was banned soon after. I may not agree with everything he posted. I'm not him and he's not me.

If I ever married not everything would be agreed upon with my spouse. Hopefully we would come to an understanding. It doesn't matter if someone has one view I disagree with. There was so much value as he spoke about his life, acceptable puns (you have to be great to make puns that don't grow tedious) that his absence created a void.

Having Mike in the group- he is as good as ever, friendly, interesting and enjoyable. This is a case not to get rid of your DVD's. If you have the complete series of Fawlty Towers you can watch and enjoy the episode where Basil Fawlty tries so hard not to mention World War II to German guests he cannot mention anything else.

"How did we lose to them?" Good luck finding the episode of Atlanta where Paper Boi is on a talk show with a person of color who identifies as white. It's funny and now is considered insensitive.

Before mentioning Little Britain which always came as close to the line and occasionally went over- Mike Johnson may not be on LinkedIn. He is still retired and living the secluded life most residents of Wyoming experience. You don't have to be on social media to be friendly or interesting.

He misses certain facets of this site. The connections more than any other. When I mentioned Thom Boehm changed careers he mentioned that he had forgotten about that singular member from when LinkedIn was a mature site where many fascinating professionals came together.

Now they try to have members play video games and other lateral moves. Bring us forward motion. Mike still goes for the obvious lines. He made the "Hot Toddy" reference soon after being introduced to Ms. Norum. He and Toddi spoke of other things as well.

People can be removed from LinkedIn for any reason or no reason at all. I am connected with Nate Cogburn and Mike O'Connor on Facebook. There was no good reason they should have been removed. The site messes with certain people who seem very nice. View many profiles to learn about people you may want to connect with and they will accuse you of using automation.

Meanwhile, I receive two to five obviously fake connection requests every week. They get angrier at people trying to build a network and use the site for its intended purpose than they do with fake accounts.

There is nothing fake about Mike Johnson. He was met through this site. Back when Trent Selbrede was all over this site. There was a time when his company had contests for who received the most profile views. He doesn't post often. Usually it is congratulating someone who was promoted. That's good to hear.

Most of my California hoteliers came to me through Trent. So did Mike Johnson. Probably Amy Blaschka as well. Surround yourself with good people and there is no limit what you can do. Even if they are removed from social media- the man still has a telephone. He has an address so I can send a letter. Will Wyoming be my thirty-eighth state visited? There are no plans. I know at least one person in that state. He is worth knowing even if I cannot tag him.

Or how about Dave Chappelle's hilarious character of the blind KKK member who was actually black (but didn't know it)?! Mr. Chappelle became so disenchanted with the way his work was being seen that he cancelled himSELF - to the tune of a $50 MILLION-dollar contract. The bottom line is that people (in my humble opinion only, of course) should NOT be able to be "cancelled" for expressing their right to FREE SPEECH. Granted, there are a few things that could be grounds for banning someone from specific sites, perhaps. But it's truly horrifying the way this environment of "cancel-culture" has run rampant.
