Life Advices That Doesn’t Suck

Life Advices That Doesn’t Suck

My story is a freedom song of struggle. It is about finding one’s purpose, how to overcome fear and to stand up for causes bigger than one’s self.— Coretta Scott King

The very first thing that normally comes in my mind, every time I face any set-back, is – What am I doing?? Is it worth it?? How come I didn’t see it through?? And the most funny one is- WHAT WERE YOU THINKING??

Indeed, no one likes to feel bad about themselves… especially when you have taken calculated risks… But it’s life and sometimes it sucks too…

When I thought of starting my own film production firm- kalakritifilms.com, I was working for a company. It was a safe place, where I get FIXED monthly salary, got to visit various places for shoots, where I can polish and even explore my passion for filmmaking. In short, a paradise for creative souls like me. The best part is that, I was shopping for myself, got the time to party with my friends, eat whatever I wanted- buy whatever I felt like, and even go back to bed on a normal human hours.

But, every morning I felt like I am stuck. I have to push myself, out of the bed to get ready. It felt like, I am sailing in a boat, which is going round and round. It’s not taking me anywhere. I was craving for challenges.

One fine morning, I decided to think through about starting a film production company in Delhi. The company I was working for, obviously felt bad that I am going to leave them high and dry. I never had any business experience. However, I could feel the freedom of doing things on my own.

I started my film production company KR with a brand name- kalakritifilms.com, with zero capital. I didn’t want to spend my savings on the company- who does that in the first place. My idea was to work for clients and invest the profits on my company.

The initial months have been hard- I had to save whatever money I had. I still remember that I used to walk for 6kms one way (12km a day), to reach to the video edit studio I hire for projects. I used to have just one meal a day- that too which costs me not more than INR 50. I rejoiced, whenever any of the clients serve snacks, lunch or even coffee at their offices (Those meetings were my lucky ones). I used to take up multiple projects to earn liquidity- so many time I used to work in 2 shifts.

I still remember a time, when I was coming back from work at 2:30 in the morning. I couldn’t eat anything all day. I was literally starving. I stopped at 24/7 stores and literally asked them, “Kuch khane ko hai kya” (do you have anything to eat). The store guy scanned my from top to bottom, as if he wants to figure-out whether I was a well-dressed beggar. I told him that I have money- but do they have anything to eat, apart from chips or wafers. I got 2 sandwiches, one of them I ate like a hungry animal- in front of them. I was that hungry.

Even my lifestyle dropped to a great extent, I said goodbye to shopping, parting with my friends, even shifted to even cheaper rented place.

But, was I crying all night for facing so many hardships from various side alone……..?? NO.. Absolutely NOT…?I was literally content in life. I knew that I can borrow money from my family or friends. But, I never did.

I believe that when we are working towards a PASSIONATE goal. None of the hardships matters. These tough times give us better prospective and vision towards our journey. Bcoz you know from your heart that this feels RIGHT

However these are my quick fixes that still helps me to come back STRONGER:

  1. JOURNALS: Write down every shitty moments that is bothering you or clouding your judgement. Use slangs or whatever words you can innovate to write down your anger or frustrations. In short, puke out all those negative self-believes. Once you are done puking. Don’t read it ever again. :)

2. SEEK HELP: I agree there could be times when the tough situation in beyond the spectrum of your brain. So, hire a rather MATURE BRAIN. What I meant is to expand your professional friend circle with more experienced trusted people. Then talk to them. They might have already walked the same path before you.

3. SWOT ANALYSIS: You can google more about this. But in short, write down your strengths, weakness, opportunity and threats. This analysis surely helps you to find a way out.

4. GET OUT OF COMFORT ZONE: Wish I could make this point 1 of this quick fixes. (LOL) Anyways…… the truth is, many people have the tendency to cry out on minor inconveniences. Coz, they think that they worked so HARD still nothing is happening in their favour. Bro, you might have touched the first cord in the theme song of STRUGGLE. You have to learn the entire song. Pull yourself together.

5. WALK: This is the cliché one. But helps a lot. Walk alone… walk whenever you find time- park, street or even on your balcony/terrace (if you are that lucky to find a place with terrace…. :) But walk alone without any distractions (especially phones). Walking alone and witnessing your surrounding helps to relax your brain. Your brain feels easy to just be in the present. Walking alone is more like a healthy drug that helps your brain to relax and not to think about the past, future, people or about social media. ??

Indeed Life sucks, for those people who doesn't have a PURPOSE. But when you do find your purpose, life's game makes you excited. Just like any mobile or computer games- You struggle, you find a way to clear the level 01 and then keep reaching to more intense levels.

BE GREAT | ONE LIFE - Make it count
