The Life and Adventures of a 2020 Copywriter

January - In Which I Find an Office Chair to Fit My 4'11" Frame

(Back then, I thought this was an annoying problem. Those were the days….)

I also launch AnimateIt! - my signature brand development package.

Then I get this message from a client. (Yes, this is a not so humble brag. #NoShame.)

And last but not least, I launch #BattleOfBrands

All in all, t’was a good month.

If we heard the word Corona back then, all we thought of was beer. (Poor Corona!)

February - In Which We Have the Calm Before the Storm

Asterisk Lighting walked out of this month with targeted new brochures - to be used at one of the last trade shows of 2020 - and Sweitzer Gifts was the lucky recipient of a Brand Foundation Audit.

I also finish creating a new brand voice + some updated copy for Fuller Brush. (Yes, that 100 year old company! They’re still around.)

March - In Which I Break Up a Fight While On a Client Call

It all starts quite innocently with the launching of CityOfShushan.com 2.0. This is a parody website of the Ancient Persian capital of Shushan created with my sister and fab designer, Sima Morgan, in honor of the Purim holiday.

Ooh, was that fun.

And then we start hearing things.

Virus, pandemic, bat soup…. schools closing?

Nah, it couldn’t be true. These kinds of things just don’t happen now, right?!

But then it did. I was locked down with 3 lively kids under the age of 9 in an 1100 square foot apartment. (Hence, me mediating fights while on a Zoom call with a client.)

April - In Which Everything Feels Tragic, Painful and Enormously Wacky

And I drown out my sorrows by spending WAAAY too much time having political arguments on LinkedIn (Tip: it’s not a good idea.)

Plus I create packaging for a camping pot and an ad campaign for luxury furniture company, all while this is going on

May - In Which the Weather Warms Up (Finally!) And Some Good Stuff Happens

I start two fabulous new projects - a new Bento lunch box brand and a party supplies brand. (Both still under construction.)

And I take one exhilarating afternoon off where I escape to Prospect Park all by my lonesome self and spot these wonders:

June - In Which I’m Told to “Go Name Myself”

My Go Name Yourself card deck by Eli Altman arrives in the mail. (And it’s already been used to create two brand names. I’m obsessed.)

Also, my evenings are randomly serenaded with the lovely sound of non-stop fireworks for 3 weeks straight.

(Don’t worry - they still had enough for 4th of July fireworks. #CouldHaveSkippedItThisYearBro.)

July - In Which Mama Gets Her Life Back

Day camps officially open in NYC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

August - In Which I Go Off Grid and Live Wild

Some luxuriously snuggly names crafted for Arow9’s new towel collections - Gentle Caress & Nested Pearls

And then I exchange the sweltering concrete of Brooklyn for a rustic tent in the boondocks of Maine. Those were two glorious days!

September - In Which Funny Covid Memes No Longer Seem Funny

Oh, and I start working on rebrand + copy for a baby safety brand.

October - In Which I Welcome a New Little Soul to the World

Like everything in 2020, it’s different. AKA masks in the delivery room…..

November - In Which I Tune Out The World in a Baby-Love Cocoon

I sneak my head out just to put the finishing touches on a fabulous name for a new product

Plus, a renamed and re-branded escape room launches!!

December - In Which Plans are Set in Motion

Plans that mean more sales for YOU.

Starting with Express Refresh - The home page or landing page revamp! It’s the easiest, most valuable way to quickly drive more sales on your website + build brand loyalty.

For a small investment of $2100, you get:

  • A voice of customer masterlist (AKA get intimate with what your customers are saying about you and your competitors.)
  • Research brief (So you know exactly what I’m doing and why.)
  • Unique and compelling copy (AKA a conversion machine!)
  • Hit my DM or message me here to get started. (It’s the perfect thing for which to use some of your new PPP or SBA funds - because you’ll earn it right back in increased sales.)

Now join me in wishes for a boringly normal year. (The OLD normal, thank you very much.)
