LIES POISON THE PERSON TELLING THEM AND THE SOCIETY THEY LIVE IN

Introduction
People have named many times to me that one of the most stressful situations is the constant repetition of lies. They have seen their family members believe the lies rather than facing the truth. They have feelings of sadness and dismay at the changes that occurred in these individuals. Even more disturbing to them was how the insurrectionists advertised their violent intentions all over social media. In the article, “America’s Moral Vacuum,” by Nancy Gibbs, Time Magazine, February 1/February 8, 2021, she speaks of the ways that the lies could be believed by the way they were communicated. Here are her statements: “The phrase storm the Capitol, unleashing countless QAnon furies, appeared 100,000 times in the month before the attack, according to Zignal Labs. The (past) President clashed his cymbals and stoked the lie; party leaders largely ignored or pampered him. The day before the attack, an FBI office shared the warning from online: ‘Be ready to fight. Congress needs to hear glass breaking, doors being kicked in…Get violent. Stop calling this a march, or rally, or a protest. Go there ready for war.’”
Facts we need to face.
It takes no imagination to be able to see that the violent attack on the capital was planned, promised, and promoted right in front of us. Again, Nancy says the following, “So how is it that so many people were once again caught by surprise, watching the American flag brandished as a bayonet, the portraits of American revolutionaries looking out over their wannabe heirs whose ‘patriotism’ was poisoned by the cynical lies of their leaders?” A description of a Black women in this article emphasizes the fact that she was not surprised at feeling unsafe, since this is not new to her. What is even sadder is that many people totally missed the White Privilege and White Supremacy of the violence being expressed by people that have never had their rights violated or their votes suppressed.
So many people have expressed how angry they are with people that will not wear their masks, and some of these same people are refusing to wear masks because they received the vaccine. Yet how could we expect anything different when they are among the group that have never had their rights violated or been prevented from voting. They are the people, who live the lie that White Privilege and White Immunity do not exist, since they refuse to accept that they like everyone else in the world are part of a race. These individuals refuse to recognize that they are part of the white race and have privileges that Blacks and People of Color do not have. How can we forget so easily that a past President of the United States showed no effort to call the nation together and did not ask for people to go beyond their self-centeredness and wear a mask as an act of respect, decency, and patriotism? When the concept of morality and values that support a democracy are lost then how can we expect anything different?
Effect of the pandemic
I know that when isolation for long periods of time occur people no longer think about caring for other human beings. They have lost the connection with others. They do not remember or maybe never knew that the feeling of caring and love can reduce stress, decrease depression, build self-esteem and self-confidence, and people feel better physically, when they are connected to and care about themselves as well as others. It is not surprising COVID-19 happened at the same time as QAnon started being successful, since some individuals detached themselves from possibilities of having a healthy community that allowed them to build significant relationships.
Meaningful connections can be achieved on Zoom; yet I still hear people whining about how they hate Zoom. It is as though certain parts of our population refuse to accept the changes that have occurred and refuse to get creative and find ways to keep or build relationships that encourage us to care about each other. Since the pandemic, I have had the opportunity to meet many new friends and colleagues, since people are in their home or office and are not hidden away in meetings. Many of these people have made efforts to join groups that allow them through Zoom to build relationships no matter what the circumstances are that they are experiencing. My caring, respect and love for the people I have met since March are as important to me as those I have known for a long time.
I have been fascinated with the lack of moral accountability of some lawmakers and yet amazed at the corporations that have acted with a moral conscience and have withdrawn their support from insurrectionists. I have seen politicians that have been willing to stand forth and support basic truth and facts; yet live through threats against them or their families and stand firm anyway. Democracy demands courage, and it demands people that will live by values that support democracy and all the people who live in America. Our US businesses have lost 16 Trillion dollars due to racism. How many more times do we have to see that hatred is divisive, elitist, and downright mean and at some point, becomes evil.
Conclusion
It is time to replace the toxic lies/fantasies and face reality that it is time to move on. It is extremely detrimental to a person who gets invested in hate, and feeds that hate. My question is what is the point of focusing on someone and investing in hate, since the person investing in the hate is the very person who is eating the poison that they wish another person were eating. I think it is time that we consider what does moral leadership mean to us, and how do we identify those people that have an attitude and behavior that show they are a person we can respect. As a reader, you need to consider for yourself what kind of person shows this kind of moral conduct? For me, it is someone who takes responsibility for their actions, their beliefs and shows leadership that supports all human beings as valuable. This person has values that encourage them to live their lives to support the unity of our nation and respect our democracy. This individual lives values that supports justice for all people. This person is courageous and challenges processes and people that tear away at our communities and our country. They invest in change when it will advance all Americans not some Americans. This kind of leader knows that people cannot achieve unless they are given the chance to develop themselves and are supported to be successful in their personal and professional lives. Finally, they know that they are loved, appreciated, and they will be encouraged to achieve and reach the greatest essence of themselves.
I end with saying here are my five values: honesty, risk-taking, appreciating diversity, being of service and being spiritually connected and directed by something greater than me, which happens to be God. My higher order value is social justice, which allows me to have a great love for all races, genders, sexual orientations, and many other groups that we have in our country. I challenge the readers to determine what are your five values, and how do they support you and your country being a respected democratic nation with value for all our citizens of the United States.
I have two offerings for each of you: Two Tuesday nights a month we have a group of people who study our history and current day events. We work on owning our biases and seeing how we can grow from our experiences in these group meetings. You can join us by going to our website, www.dtp-leadership.com, and signing up. The cost for this group is the small fee of $40.00 a month. Second, I have a new three-hour program that has 25 pages of handouts and provides how to deal with change and all the stresses that come with change. I need a minimum of 22 people to be able to offer the course entitled “Change is a Process, Not an Event.” The cost will be $45.00 per participant. I would like to offer this in March or April. Please email at [email protected] to help me be able to offer this program.

4 年The difference between the someone else's "truth" and my "truth" is what I'd like to know. I have a tendency to store that information and then wonder is it really the truth and who do I know would know that answer to that question. Hopefully I will have "some" answers soon.

4 年They do not realize that the lie they are telling poisons them when they think they are poisoning the other person. There is information in this article about lies and how they impact individuals and society, and the significant stress they bring to all people involved. There are clear connections between QAnon furries and the pandemic, and what the isolation does to people. There are suggestions to assist all of us to confront these lies and the stresses they bring to us, and then how we can help others to do the same.
