On 6 July 2018, the EEA Joint Committee decided to incorporate the GDPR into the EEA Agreement, as published by the Liechtenstein government with media participation on 6 July 2018.
The GDPR will enter into force for Liechtenstein on 20 July 2018 and will be directly applicable in Liechtenstein from that day. On the same day, a Transitional Data Protection Act will come into force in Liechtenstein to allow the data protection authorities to become active on the basis of the GDPR within the framework of the EEA. This interim solution is necessary as the main Liechtenstein Data Protection Act is still under revision.
