Lidl Eyes 600 Casino And Monoprix Stores

Lidl France is believed be interested in acquiring 600 stores operating under the Casino and Monoprix banners in the country, according to media reports. The discounter has sent a letter, signed by its managing director Kenneth Mc Grath, to the UK-based investment fund Attestor, outlining a list of 300 Monoprix and 300 Casino stores it would like to acquire, according to Le Monde. Polish?private equity fund Enterprise Investors has said that it has no plans to sell Croatian supermarket chain?Studenac, despite local media reports to the contrary. Croatian daily?Jutarnji List?reported this week that?the Polish branch of JP Morgan was hired as a consultant at the beginning of the year to prepare the business for sale, with private equity funds, international retailers and a variety of other businesses mentioned as potential suitors. In response to these reports, Micha? K?dzia, partner in Enterprise Investors, told?ESM, "We are not in the process of selling Studenac now, nor plan to launch one later this year. We are extremely happy about the current performance and growth pace of the business, and are therefore are fully focused on further development of the network."
Dutch retailer?Jumbo?reported an 8.8% year-on-year increase in sales in the first half of its financial year, which it says fell short of the market average of 9.4%, resulting in a slight drop in market share. The company?generated?sales worth €5.96 billion in the first six months of its financial year, with sales growth mainly driven by price increases due to inflation. Ton van Veen, who took office as Jumbo's CEO last March, commented, "This was not our very best period. Domestically, we have faced circumstances that demanded a lot of our attention. We also had to contend with unprecedented price, rent and energy increases, a sharp rise in collective wage agreements and declining consumer confidence." Jumbo added that it aims to put more focus on price, range, service and?sustainability?in the coming months.
Belgian retailer Colruyt plans to test a digital wine assistant at its stores in Wetteren, Zele, Merelbeke, Liedekerke, Halle and Menen. The assistant will be placed on the?wine?aisle and feature a large touchscreen with software that allows customers to select various wines, the company?added. The pilot will be conducted for six months, after which it will be evaluated before considering a possible further expansion of the project. The?digital assistant?is an addition to the one-to-one guidance service?Colruyt?already offers with its in-store wine advisers.
French?supermarket chain?E.Leclerc?has agreed to acquire 27 stores in Luxembourg from?Louis Delhaize?Group, for an undisclosed amount. The deal will see E.Leclerc open its first stores in?Luxembourg, where it currently has no presence. The 27 stores include two Cora hypermarkets, 12 Match supermarkets and 13 Smatch convenience stores, located all over the country. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2023, and E.Leclerc has pledged to retain all 1,200 jobs at the stores.
