LibreWolf - Saving Passwords in this hardened web browser

LibreWolf - Saving Passwords in this hardened web browser

I like light web browser and the firefox based LibreWolf fits that requirement for me.

I have used Firefox from the very beginning, then on and off throughout the years. It used to be a small piece of software, but it has grown so much. Gone are the days of a clean uinstall of firefox. The installer dumps mozilla folders all over Windows, just in case you accidently uninstall/break it. The convenience of a reinstall. Making it as much of a pain as many of the other browser to get a clean re-install.

I guess there are a lot of others thinking the same, hence the many forks of the original code. I am using two at the moment, PaleMoon and LibreWolf. LibreWolf has been hardened to a point it can be a bit of a challenge to use if you need to log into the web apps/pages on a regular basis. As the password store has been disabled. I have spent far too long doing web searches that explained absolutely nothing on how to reinstate this feature, therefore I had dig around myself to get a solution.

It turns out the solution is very simple.

Once you have installed LibreWolf:

  • Press windows key - R now type %APPDATA% and press return
  • Open AppData > Roaming > LibreWolf > Profiles
  • There are two folders in here, open the folder with the latest Date Modified. (It will have some random name)
  • Now open the prefs.js file in an editor
  • Search user_pref("signon.rememberSignons", ****);
  • **** should be false, Change this to true, save the file, and restart the web browser.
  • Once you have saved the usernames/passwords to the browser you may find that they do not auto-populate the username/passwords when you next open the browser. Just click on the username edit box, a dropdown option should show that lets you choose the details you previously saved.
