LIBERTY Spotlight: Alex Zhang

Information Technology is an essential team at LIBERTY to help integrate hardware, software, services, and support infrastructure to manage information and streamline digital processes. At the core of LIBERTY’s IT department is a team of dedicated professionals who explore solutions to resolve everyday challenges to increase operational efficiency. One such player who helps keep the information flowing is Assistant Associate Engineer Alex Zhang. Alex was instrumental in creating a dashboard for IT Help Desk tickets so the team can stay on top of ticket requests. For his efforts, Alex was recognized recently for the President’s Innovation Award.

?“We were having different issues with slow-moving websites, which slowed a lot of our requests,” Alex explained. “I wanted to find out how we could get better observability into our application environments to fix the issues. I worked with a few members across LIBERTY and created a solution that turned out to be extremely useful.”

Currently, the dashboard monitors: HSP Production DB Performance and Health; Meditrac/CRM User Experience; Meditrac Testing with Sign-in, Member Search, and Claims Search Duration; Client/Provider Portal HTTP Request Latency; the number incoming Helpdesk Tickets by Category, and; Terminal/DB Server availability with email notifications.

Alex admitted to making this his personal project. His drive and dedication enabled him to push himself every day, sometimes working early into the morning hours, to create an application to help improve his team’s service. IT now provides faster services since they no longer have to wait on heavy application loading to resolve ticket submissions. His efforts resulted in multiple teams, including the HSP team, to gain a valuable tool that has improved their daily workflows.

Alex embodies the idea of “See something, do something.” “We’ve been improving our technology like crazy,” he explained. "Every new project means new skills to learn and grow within the company. These are thing I am really looking forward too.”
