- Yesterday was National Women's Entrepreneurship Day and it raised some questions for me around the weird double standards in terms of narratives around entrepreneurship. For example: no one has ever referred to me as a "Dad-Boss" or a "working dad", yet it seems like these are common phrases (Mom-boss, working mom) used when referring to a woman CEO who is engaged in commerce in these ways. When a dad is involved in his kids' lives, he's called an "active father", but when a woman engages in parenting responsibilities, it's not even mentioned... as if it's just to be expected. When used empoweringly by the people, I'm not against the phrases themselves. I do wonder, though, how these narratives, when applied inequitably, further feed issues around the gender pay gap, access to capital for women founders, and all of the other glaring disparities in the system. Internalized and unchecked patriarchy hurts everyone involved (similarly to white supremacy), and is one of the core destructive mindsets that deteriorates our communities. #imho
