ALDE Party-Liberal International joint statement on Georgian parliamentary elections

The parliamentary elections that took place in Georgia over the weekend have left a heavy cloud of uncertainty and fear hanging over the country. ALDE Party President Svenja Hahn and Liberal International President Hakima El Haite issued a joint statement in support of Georgian citizens’ pursuit of a future centred on a clear path towards EU membership and free from Russian influence and fully respecting democratic values.

Liberals renew mandate in Lithuanian elections

Parliamentary elections were held in Lithuania on 13 October, with a second round on 27 October, to elect all 141 seats in the Seimas.?Half of the 141 seats are allocated through proportional ranked voting, while the other half is allocated via a two-round electoral district system.?ALDE Party member Liberal? s?jūdis won 12 seats in the new mandate with a share of 7.7% of the popular vote, strengthening their representation in large cities.??

Momentum MP becomes Hungary’s first political convict

On 17 October, the Budapest Court of Appeal sentenced Member of the Hungarian Parliament András Fekete-Gy?r for his role in anti-government protests in 2018.?Despite being acquitted in 2023 after a five-year process, he was sentenced for allegedly encouraging others to act violently as a "psychological accomplice", despite not directly committing violence against a public official or causing injury or damage.?
