LHDA Delivers Lifesaving Equipment to Health Workers in Mokhotlong, Thaba Tseka, Leribe

Today, LHDA's Polihali Branch handed over Health Equipment to the Mokhotlong, Leribe and Thaba-Tseka District Health Management Teams (DHMTs). This, is done as part of a comprehensive Public Health Action Plan, which the LHDA is implementing to improve public health outcomes in areas surrounding Phase II of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project (LHWP). (Thaba-Tseka, Katse and Mokhotlong).

In 2020, the LHDA in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, developed and signed a memorandum of understanding to implement a Public Health Action Plan under Phase II of the LHWP. The plan was signed following an extensive Health Impact Assessment that was conducted in 2018 around the project's catchment areas, with a focus on establishing baseline health indicators in the district of Mokhotlong.

Speaking at the event, Polihali Branch Manager Mr. Gerard Mokone stated that "the LHDA is committed in its partnership with the Ministry of Health and in its support for health workers." He further mentioned that, as per the MoU between LHDA and MoH, the LHDA intends to pay monthly allowances to Village Health Workers (VHW) for a Period of Two (2) Years, after the VHWs verification exercise is compete. The verification exercise will indicate the total number of VHWs to be recruited per Health Centre. So far, the LHDA has spent over M2.6 million in support of Public Health Initiatives under Phase II.

The LHDA handed over 20 Laptops, 12 Tablets, 500 freezer Suits, 500 back packs and 500 umbrellas to Village Health Workers and Health Centres around the Phase II LHWP catchment areas.?
