LG Energy Solution has signed a contract with GM to jointly develop prismatic batteries and key materials, strengthening their 14-year partnership. The newly developed prismatic batteries are set to be installed in GM’s next-generation electric vehicles, marking LG Energy Solution’s official foray into prismatic battery development alongside pouch and cylindrical batteries.
Prismatic batteries are known for their durability and potential for structural simplification, but they face challenges in optimizing internal space utilization. To address this, LG Energy Solution leverages its industry-leading technology, including advanced stacking methods, to create a balanced battery portfolio that meets diverse customer needs.
LG Energy Solution Vice President Wonjoon Seo expressed his commitment to delivering unparalleled customer value through the expanded partnership with GM. Meanwhile, GM Vice President Curt Kerti emphasized the importance of this collaboration in enhancing EV performance, improving safety, and reducing costs.
