Lexis Nexis Releases 3rd Edition of Addressing the Jury: Achieving Fair Verdicts in Personal Injury Cases

Toronto, ON – Jury lawyers across Canada will welcome the release of the highly anticipated third edition of Addressing the Jury: Achieving Fair Verdicts in Personal Injury Cases, the only comprehensive Canadian book on jury advocacy. Published by Lexis Nexis , this latest edition builds upon the success of its predecessors, both of which sold out.

Renowned civil jury lawyer Roger Oatley has once again teamed up with former partner Troy Lehman to expand, refine, and update this invaluable resource. Drawing on extensive research and practical courtroom experience, the authors delve into the psychology of jury decision-making, exploring how jurors’ biases can be leveraged to craft persuasive arguments.

The book provides a thorough guide to developing compelling trial themes, structuring persuasive opening and closing statements, and effectively using demonstrative evidence to make cases more impactful and memorable. Readers will also learn strategies for countering opposing arguments before they are even presented.

New Features in the 3rd Edition

  • Enhanced Examination Techniques – Expanded guidance on examining and cross-examining witnesses to maximize persuasive impact.
  • Exclusive Audio Chapters – A first for publisher Lexis Nexis, this edition includes audio recordings of Troy Lehman’s actual opening and closing statements from a successful jury trial, accompanied by strategic analysis and commentary from Roger Oatley.

While this book is an indispensable guide for young lawyers preparing for their first jury trial, it remains an essential tool for seasoned advocates. Experienced jury lawyers continue to rely on Addressing the Jury before and during every trial to refine their advocacy skills and improve trial outcomes.
