November 2024 Employment Report

SEEK Employment Report – November 2024.

The national job market has seen significant shifts this quarter. Here are the key statistics and trends:

In November, job ad volumes decreased by 1.1% month-on-month, reflecting a gradual easing in hiring activity. Applications per job ad increased by 3.4% over the last quarter, reaching levels not seen since the start of COVID, signalling heightened competition among job seekers.

"Job ads have been more stable over the past twelve months than at any other time in the past five years... Applications per job ad have jumped again month-on-month and have not been this high since the start of COVID." - Dr. Blair Chapman, SEEK Senior Economist.

These trends reflect a stabilising labour market with varied performance across industries. Consulting & Strategy and Real Estate & Property are among the sectors showing pockets of growth, while others continue to face headwinds.

The Recruitment and Human Resources industry experienced a 1.0% decline in job ad volumes in November, reflecting a modest softening in demand within the sector.

From a P&C perspective, we have seen steady movement at a P&C Business Partnering level with an uptick in Employee/Industrial relations-focused roles. The senior end of the market remains hyper-competitive, with an oversupply of candidates at this level and fewer opportunities available, which has also influenced a softening of salaries.

There are positive sentiments in the market heading into 2025 with many organisations signalling hiring intentions – a sign that the market will rebound somewhat in the New Year!

?Sneak Peek: A New Era of Inclusion at Levyl

Big changes are coming to our flagship DEI initiative, formerly known as the High Potential Program. As we prepare to launch this revamped program in early 2025, we're taking bold steps to redefine what diversity, equity, and inclusion mean in the modern workplace.

Focusing on inclusive hiring, leadership pathways, and fostering cultures of belonging, this program will empower organisations to address systemic inequities and champion underrepresented communities with a specific focus on neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+.

Stay tuned for more details - we can’t wait to share how this program will help organisations transform inclusion into a commitment and belonging into a measurable outcome!

PLACEMENT OF THE MONTH

Levyl's Senior Consultant Emilia gifted Tim some Levyl merch to congratulate him on the new role.

Meet our standout candidate of the month:

Alvarez and Marsal are a global management consulting firm who have expanded into Australia and experienced exponential growth, growing from 30 to 300 employees in less than 12 months! They were looking for a superstar Recruiter to support the Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition in recruitment efforts across the entirety of the business, with experience working in comparable consulting or investment firms.?

Our Senior Recruiter Emilia Rodriguez Carrasco placed Tim in the role - he had recently finished a contract with Deloitte and was excited to be moving back into the professional services industry. His experience working in fast-paced environments both in Sydney and Ireland set him up for success in this role and he has enjoyed partnering closely with the Senior Manager on souring best-in-class talent for the business and discussing football! Congrats Tim!

Guided by expert cheesemongers, we mastered the art of crafting light, fluffy gnocchi while sharing plenty of laughter and festive spirit.

The evening continued with a lively celebration over cocktails and delicious food. In true holiday tradition, we exchanged our Kris Kringle presents, adding a touch of surprise and joy to the festivities.
