Leveraging #VicRoads open data in 4 steps

I have done a few articles on analysing open data from the 2016 Census but there is a whole lot of other open data sources out there that you can combine with your own data.
One great resource is data.vic.gov.au that contains open Victorian Government datasets. One, in particular, is Crash Stats by VicRoads.
Try it for yourself:
- Extract data from data.vic.gov.au
- Load data from the accident table into QGIS
- Set dots by 'severity'
- Use QGIS plugin 'Time Manager'
Now we can try to understand patterns and hotspots which can be seen in the animation below for the City of Casey.
