Want a tip to help get ahead in IT? Leverage user groups! I talked about personal branding a couple of weeks ago at https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/peterlurie_careerwalkingdeck-thankyou-personalbranding-activity-7153023088526258176-_Wso but I didn’t cover how to start getting recognized as skilled or an expert in an area.? One way to do that is to join and participate in user groups.
User groups are generally community lead and free or low cost. They provide:
1.??? Learning: User groups provide an opportunity to learn from other members who have more experience or knowledge in a particular area. Members can share tips, tricks, and best practices that can help you improve your skills.
2.??? Networking: User groups provide an opportunity to network with other professionals in the same industry, which can lead to new job opportunities or collaborations.
3.??? Access to resources: User groups often have access to resources that are not available to the public. This can include software, hardware, and training materials.
4.???? Community: Joining a user group can provide a sense of community and belonging with people who share your interests. They often organize social events, such as parties, game nights, and hackathons.
