Leveraging on the use of Technology-The HR value chain

Annual HR summit 2023 at Strathmore Business school

On Thursday, 13th July, I had an opportunity to join an excellent panel of Paul Berloff and ?Lucy Evara ably moderated by Professor Joseph Onyango, Ph.D.

We shared practical nuggets on leveraging technology within the Human Resource value chain. Here is a summary of how technology is causing disruption at different stages of the HR value chain:

  • Technology has revolutionized recruitment and talent acquisition processes. Technology enables job postings, Online job boards, social media platforms, online job portals, resume screening, applicant tracking systems (ATS) and AI-based algorithms to reach out to a wider talent pool and identify the best fit candidates.
  • Technology is making onboarding and training more efficient and engaging. HR teams can use learning management systems (LMS) to deliver online training modules, videos, and interactive content to new hires. Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies provide immersive training experiences.
  • Digital HR systems and cloud-based HR management software is simplifying the storage and management of employee data leading to evidenced-based decision making.
  • Technology has transformed performance management processes. Traditional annual reviews are being replaced with continuous performance feedback facilitated by digital platforms. Data analytics enable HR professionals to identify patterns and trends, helping in making data-driven decisions.
  • Technology has enhanced employee engagement and communication. Mobile applications and chatbots provide instant access to company information, policies, and updates.
  • Technology-driven analytics tools allow HR professionals to gather, analyze, and interpret vast amounts of employee data leading to faster and effective decision making.
  • HR technology empowers employees with self-service capabilities reducing administrative and empowering employees to manage their own HR-related tasks efficiently.

Technology has brought about significant advantages to the HR value chain by automating processes, improving efficiency, and enabling data-driven decision-making. It has allowed HR professionals to focus more on strategic initiatives and create a positive employee experience.

Technological advancement has ignited a flame of disruption in skill set and shift in job. This is therefore leading to ‘must’ conversations on careers and curriculum

However, in these disruptive times where mental health and wellness is significantly a top priority, there will be a balance between the complimentary role of technology and humanity ?
