Learning: Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations (D365 F&O) supports the use of Customer Managed Keys (CMKs) for enhanced data security. Here's a brief overview:
- What are CMKs? CMKs allow you to manage your encryption keys, providing more control over your data security. These keys must be stored in Microsoft Azure Key Vault.
- Why use CMKs? By default, data in Dynamics 365 is encrypted using Microsoft-managed keys. However, if you want more control over your encryption keys, you can use CMKs. This practice secures the data from being exposed if a copy of the database is stolen.
- How to enable CMKs? To enable CMKs for your finance and operations apps environment, you need to enable the Microsoft Power Platform integration. After the CMK policy is enabled, it also applies to environment-specific resources, including SQL databases and Azure storage accounts.
- Where are CMKs applicable? CMKs apply to environments that run one or more finance and operations apps that are integrated with Microsoft Power Platform. It also applies to all environment-specific resources, including SQL databases and Azure storage accounts.
Please note that this feature is being gradually rolled out across regions and might not yet be available in your region!
