Helping Drive More Sales, At Higher Margins, In Less Time With Greater Forecasting Accuracy
I am really excited about another AI resource for sales professionals. AI search engines have emerged as essential tools for Sales Superstars seeking a competitive advantage in today’s technology-driven landscape. By utilizing these powerful assets, sales teams can uncover vital insights and formulate more effective strategies.
This newsletter will describe how to get more out of your interaction (prompts) with these tools (my favorite this week is Perplexity) utilizing the RICE-Q technique.?The examples I will provide are for those who sell technology and software in the healthcare market.
The RICE-Q Approach to Excellent Prompts
Role (R)
Define the AI's role clearly. This sets the context for the AI's responses. Example: "You are a healthcare IT expert with deep knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems."
Instructions (I)
Provide clear, specific instructions to guide the AI's response. Be explicit about what you want to know or achieve, and specify the desired format for the response. Example: "Create a SWOT analysis for Acme Healthcare Technologies' new AI-driven diagnostic imaging software. Present your analysis in a 2x2 grid format, with each quadrant containing 3-4 bullet points.
Context (C)
Offer relevant background information to help the AI understand the specific situation or problem. Example: "Considering recent HIPAA updates and the rise in cybersecurity threats, what are the most critical data security measures for healthcare software in 2024?"
Examples (E)
Include examples to illustrate your point or guide the AI's response format. Example: "Provide three case studies of successful telemedicine implementations in rural hospitals, similar to how St. Mary's Hospital reduced patient wait times by 30% using Acme's telemedicine platform."
Questions (Q)
Anticipate and solicit questions the AI might have before conducting the search. This helps refine the prompt and ensures more accurate results. Example: "Before you begin, do you need any additional information about Acme's software specifications or the target hospital's size and specialties?"
Real-World Applications For Those Who Sell Technology And Software In The Healthcare Market.
Here are a few more examples for using RISK-Q with AI search engines for Research, Competitive Analysis and Value Propositions:
1.?????Client Research:
R: "You are a market research analyst specializing in healthcare institutions."
I: "Provide a summary of recent technology investments and current challenges for [Hospital Name]. Please include key statistics."
C: "[Hospital Name] is a 250-bed facility in the Midwest, focusing on general and cardiac care."
E: "Include information similar to how St. John's Hospital recently invested in an AI-driven diagnostic platform."

Q: “Before you respond, do you have any questions which will help you to respond better? Do you need any specific details about the hospital's current IT infrastructure or budget constraints?"
?
2.?????Competitive Analysis:
R: "You are a product comparison expert in healthcare software."
I: "Compare Acme Healthcare Technologies' practice management software with its top three competitors in the small clinic market. Please present your findings in a table format."
C: "Acme's software specializes in streamlined billing and patient scheduling."
E: "Include a feature comparison table similar to those found in Gartner reports."
Q: “Before you respond, do you have any questions which will help you to respond better? Should I focus on any particular aspects of the software, such as user interface, integration capabilities, or pricing models?"
?
3.?????Value Proposition Development:
·R: "You are a healthcare marketing strategist."
I: "Generate three compelling value propositions for our AI-powered diagnostic support tool designed for emergency departments. Please format each proposition as a concise statement."
C: "The tool assists in rapid, accurate diagnoses and has shown a 15% reduction in misdiagnoses in pilot studies."
E: "Structure each proposition like this: 'Our tool helps [user] to [action] resulting in [benefit].'"
Q: “Before you respond, do you have any questions which will help you to respond better? Do you need more information about the tool's specific features or the results from pilot studies?"
Important note:?No tool is perfect and AI has many challenges. The biggest problem I have experienced is called “hallucinations.”?This simply means that the information provided is wrong.?Never trust the output provided by AI and always double check your information.? Additionally, please assume that everything you input into an AI search engine is now in the public domain. Never enter any confidential or personal information.
By mastering the RICE-Q approach and applying it to healthcare technology sales scenarios, sales professionals can unlock the full potential of AI search engines. This enables them to conduct more thorough research, engage in more informed conversations with prospects, and ultimately close more deals in the ever-evolving healthcare technology and software market. Remember, the key to success is crafting well-structured prompts that provide clear context and anticipate the AI's potential questions, ensuring more accurate and valuable responses.
Good Selling,
