LDEQ Secretary Aurelia S. Giacometto is partnering with the Governor’s Office and the Lt. Governor’s Office on a tour of six communities across Louisiana to engage with the public and raise greater awareness around the environmental issue of waste tires. Gonzales was the first stop where she met with local parish leaders and heard from members of the public. Secretary Giacometto spoke about the problem of illegally dumped tires throughout the state and the programs available to help conscientious citizens who want to dispose of waste tires responsibly. She also emphasized LDEQ’s commitment to continue engagement with the parishes on compliance and enforcement measures for improper disposal of waste tires.

LDEQ Secretary Aurelia S. Giacometto traveled to Lutcher last night to participate in the St. James Business & Industry Development Group Meeting alongside other state and local leaders, including State Senator Eddie J. Lambert. Following an introduction by St. James Parish President Pete Defresne, Secretary Giacometto spoke about LDEQ’s commitment to the community, Top 5 Priorities, and the LDEQ air monitoring sites around the state. Air monitoring was the focus of the discussion, including citizen science, using EPA standards for determining quality citizen data, and the use of science, such as LSU’s Tumor Registry, to illuminate the science along the River Parishes. She emphasized partnering with local communities to help advance business innovation and economic development in Louisiana through the lens of environmental protection.
