Leverage Video to Build Your Brand & Stand Out in 2024

As 2023 draws to a close, it's time to start thinking about how to set yourself up for career success in the coming year. Which is why I'm thrilled to share some of the take-aways from my recent LinkedIn Live discussion with career expert Jane Jackson .

During this lively LinkedIn Live event, Jane and I talked at length about how to future-proof your career and attract exciting job opportunities in 2024.

Jane asked me... "Why must we add video and live streaming to our personal branding strategy?"

"Video is the quickest thing that allows people to get to know, like, and trust you," I told Jane Jackson. We both agree upon the fact that visual content allows your authentic self to shine through in an impactful way. As Jane noted, "people remember those who do video because our personalities shine through."

This level of authenticity is difficult to achieve through text alone. Whether you're a job seeker, entrepreneur or looking to advance internally, incorporating video helps position you as a true thought leader in your industry. People get a genuine sense of whether you and your messaging resonate before making a meaningful connection.

? Crafting an Effective Content Strategy on LinkedIn

I asked Jane... "How can we create an effective content strategy for success in 2024?"

The first step is assessing your goals and target audience, as I emphasized to Jane. Only with this clarity can an impactful strategy be developed. I recommend reflecting on successes and failures from the past year to refine your direction moving forward.

With focus, switch your LinkedIn profile to "content creator" mode by sharing original posts or articles regularly. Contrary to assumptions, you don't need fancy equipment to get started, as Jane noted - a webcam and mic will suffice. Consistency is key to building awareness over time.

Jane asked me... "Why is live streaming more powerful than video?"

Live streaming allows your authentic personality to shine through in an interactive experience, I shared. People feel like they've "pulled up a chair" to join in.

Even though I was initially terrified, I have found that going live on LinkedIn is less nerve-wracking than doing recorded videos.

For the past three years, I have carved out a consistent weekly time slot to "own my online real estate," as Jane put it. With patience, my audience grew along with my confidence. A key benefit to live streaming is how content can be endlessly repurposed through short snippets, podcasts, articles and more - maximizing overall reach.
